Today was the first work day I've woken up past dawn in months. At my latitude, there was visible sunlight starting at 7:08am
It was really jarring, actually lol

She's not wrong. The issue being stop building 3 million dollar McMansions and idk, *** build affordable housing.
(there's no profit in building affordable housing)
((Affordable houses lower the value of other houses, everything is supposed to be scarce on purpose))
(((Houses are supposed to be lived in not hoarded for value)))
Without the fear of being homeless (and having a clear and present threat) how do you threaten people into working half their life away?
((((Systemic issues))))

That 'Avenger's Theme' audio on the second half of that video takes it to a whole new level.

I wondered how Xenoblade hadnt a continuous line of mobs lv. For example, first zone had three different camps (lvs 10; 30; 70+). Going further in game we had several zones with mobs from 10~30 then a huge jump to lv90+ mobs. But somehow, there was simply no camps for mobs lv60~70 for like 70% of the game.
Then today I discovered about the expert mode that allows locking the lv so we can exp further on low lv camps as if they were "even match" or "decent challenge" type, thus finally closing the gap between my team and the starter zone lv70 camp.
Though I felt like cheating tbf. Using expert mode is like using lv sync from FFXI to abuse weaker mobs instead of trying the hard one, or taking longer to exp with easy mobs. Used it to go from lv63 to 67 and thats it. Now i can challenge mobs lv70 so I will do normal way lvling.

One piece of the why we can't have good things affordable housing puzzle ...
Capital management companies are buying up housing and converting them into rentals. They get sallie mae financing to do this.
They are also issuing rental backed securities...
By Draylo 2022-02-14 20:36:46
Well in nyc all the houses and apartments are bought up by China and many foreign buyers just using them to invest. There's no restrictions for that for the most part, while many countries at least set aside land or prioritize for their own people. Housing isn't a right here, even tho it should be to some degree. It's one of those things we just don't talk about so we keep the profit going.

Literally everything takes second place to profit, no surprise there
You would THINK the well being and health of your consumers so they can give that profit would be number one, cause dead people ain't buyin a damn thing but nope. There's always more new ones. (except now, they're starting to panic, no one is having babies, oh ***!)
By Draylo 2022-02-14 21:51:56
Of who's consumers? The people buying most properties aren't even American lol. They are already wealthy foreigners who purchase these houses/apts with the intention of investment. Which can also mean laundering their money or renting them out. There are a large amount of units that are purchased but just unoccupied.. It's really sad

That's what I'm saying. Instead of, ya know, keeping OUR own people housed, and like, fed, and alive, they're just selling everything
But they don't because you're expendable, literally replace yourself with your offspring. (replacement rate) Except, that's not happening now.

I really enjoyed this guy's legal attempt to obtain an expensive home with just a document filed at the county courthouse for $16.00. He did eventually have to leave after 8 months. Likely, if not for the media attention, he may have been able to lay low long enough (3 years in Texas) to legally obtain the deed since the only people that cared otherwise would have only been himself and a bunch of 1's and 0's on a computer. Unless the house were actively looked at by a human, it could have worked out for him.

Oh, and F the little crybaby neighbors that are SO triggered because some random guy moved in to the home. If he had a family, a moving truck, and paid local homeowner's association fees or whatever, I doubt they would have cared or even noticed. I mean... what kind of snoopy neighbor would normally ask HOW you paid for / obtained your house? Who even talks to their neighbors for that matter.

It probably ruined somebody's day, but I noticed this on Kraken Club page a bit ago. I removed names because someone would be all "Oh, you can't show names blah blah". Probably not, but covering bases, I suppose. I hope this person didn't lose their K-Club like this though.

New concept learned today:
Quote: gold plating is the phenomenon of working on a project or task past the point of diminishing returns.
I guess that very true in many situations including gaming. I mean, I mostly dont need most powerups, thus its almost bad use of time spending those many hours farming some junk still we do it anyway.

the sad thing is that land is not scarce. there is no reason for it to be like it is, but the way we build towns and cities is awful. suburban sprawl and ultra high priced real estate in places like new york, seattle, san fransisco are just easy markets to manipulate if you have enough money. the amount of money taken from the poors over the time since the housing crisis has given the real rich enough power to finally tip the scales. it's like playing poker. once you have enough money over the other players, you can just keep forcing people to go all in til you eventually win. the truly wealthy have hit that point.
i'm selling my house and traveling for a year or two. hopefully the market crashes and the profit i make is worth a lot more as capital than land.

It* probably ruined somebody's day.
As in taking a $360,000,000 hit by bazaar'ing a K-Club for 40m being the "it" in this situation.
My mistake. I will correct the sentence.

Sorta shifting gears on the topic of housing. I wonder if having widely-accessible internet and so many places shifting to working from home might help balance some of that out a bit. Like, people can probably start making a shift back away from hubs. Add to that some self-sufficiency from solar panels (etc.) and a BEV acting as both an overnight battery and as free transportation for your weekly grocery trip into the city.
I know it's optimistic, but it's the only thing helping me look ahead to a future that's otherwise very quickly spiraling into Cyberpunk lol

Ironically "work from home" doesn't "work"
Cuts out middle management, that's a sector "too big to fail". Cuts gas consuption, that's a no-no. Slows road maintenance. Slows fast food sales.
When you aren't leaving your house, a LOT of peoples pockets take a hit. And that's seriously a *** up way society works. Starbucks and Tim Hortons would go bankrupt. Won't someone think of the CEOs and Investors!
This is also directly related to why >95% of the country has no public transportation. All the related things cars do.
Quote: According to the American Community Survey (ACS), public transportation commuters constituted about 5 percent of all workers in the United States in 2019. And when you're at home and not working 9-5 you have the ability to ACTUALLY accomplish tasks. Like town halls. Voting. Protesting. You're not at work solely to "keep the machine moving" you're at work to keep you from your house and to keep you from realizing how badly you're getting ***. Perpetually exhausted and in constant fear.

After my playtest a few months ago, I went dark and took a break from my RPG engine. Partly so I didn't burn out on it, and partly because I wanted to come up with something really good for how to make magic work.
Finally had a breakthrough the other day. Now if I could convince the sky to stop snowing for five minutes, I might have time to make some progress instead of spending all of my free time outside shoveling >_>;

I was going to post a flame thrower used as a snowblower.
But I now learned they use JET ENGINES as snowblowers too. That's WAY COOLER. (hotter, lul)

Doing game is a cool idea.
Im on the creative side and I like obscure/conspiration theories and I felt that those topics are poorly explored in most media products (movies, comic/manga, games).
At some point I will want to make some sort of media product to expose my own view about this topic. Wondering if it could be a comics because I like drawing, or maybe a game because Im doing a software related universtity.

I'd seriously consider it. We're literally running out of space to put the snow. Every pile is between 6 to 8 feet high, and trying to pile more on top tends to just slide down. It was a huge mistake not investing in a snowblower.
Doing game is a cool idea.

Wondering if it could be a comics because I like drawing, or maybe a game because Im doing a software related universtity. I just wish I could stick to one hobby and see something through. But between wanting to draw 2D art, my new fascination with Blender and 3D modeling, Final Fantasy XI, my Steam backlog, and my homebrew RPG engine, I can never seem to finish anything.
If you're into conspiracy theories, there's a really funny animated show on Netflix called Inside Job.
I found my creativity just kinda blossomed on its own, out of necessity. Rather than whine about my issues with other tabletop RPGs, I figured I'd make the changes myself. Later, I took those ideas and started compiling them from scratch. Now I'm really deep into the whole thing lol
The framework for the game is pretty close to done, so now I'm fleshing it out.

Finally got around to playing and clearing Axiom Verge 2. Game is so good! I don't know what I expected from it, but I was still suprised by lots of things. Lots of clever design things in it with the non-linearity of metroidvania type of game.
While I'm unlurking, RT, suggest a video game for me? I'm in the mood for easy/casual, farming/looting type of game, can't seem to find one that I'd want to try out.

It might not fit your description, but I've been enjoying Ruined King by Airship Syndicate recently. It's a turn-based RPG.

At some point I will want to make some sort of media product to expose my own view about this topic. Wondering if it could be a comics because I like drawing, or maybe a game because Im doing a software related universtity. Actually, a word of advice. Keep a document somewhere on the cloud that you can access from anywhere. Any time an idea strikes you, jot it down. It doesn't have to make sense, and you might ignore it later anyway. But even if you don't use it at all, it's fun to look back at scrapped ideas.
I've got over 100 pages of random notes for my game in a Google Document. I'll be lying in bed and suddenly my eyes will pop wide open with a cool idea. If I don't write it down, I'll forget it by morning. Guaranteed.
My favourite was when I brainstormed for literally days on how to make sensible, yet simple damage calculations. When I look back, it reads as though I was arguing with myself. I refuse to delete anything (in case I change my mind later), so it's got a lot of paragraphs that start out with stuff like "NO NO NO" or "That's stupid, it won't work!" - In the end, after like 6 pages of arguing with myself, I finally came up with a system that both makes logical (real-life) sense and is mathematically simple.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
