What? I just mean how Nintendo shifted focus away from competition. In the NES, SNES, N64, and GCN eras, they spent a lot of energy on being the best platform. Since the Wii, they've been in their own little bubble. They haven't cared about being the graphical powerhouse or buying up exclusives. It seems like they couldn't care less about anything Microsoft or Sony are doing now. But back in the day? Absolutely.
I think that's one of the reasons people like the Switch. Its gimmick this time is practical (unlike the Wii or Wii-U), and their games are more traditionally self-contained rather than abusing "live service", microtransactions, or gambling mechanics.
Of course, I haven't bought a console since my PS3. So please correct me if I'm wrong. Or at least elaborate on what you meant by that.
