I really never got why they didn't continue the FFT series, still one of my favorite games series...
Just didn't appeal to the wider audiences. It's relentlessly unforgiving and challenging, particularly on your first playthrough. It also came out right next to FFVII, a bastion of graffix. Why would anyone want to play the Final Fantasy with stylized sprites when you could play the Final Fantasy with the graphics that look just one step away from photorealism and SEXYroth with his 19-foot sword!
Not to say there's anything wrong with FFVII or a company going in a direction that earns it more money. Though it's interesting how tastes can change on a wide scale over time. Much like how a lot of movies bomb at the box office, but then grow a cult following because it was just bad timing, it's a good idea to explore older properties from time to time.
At least they're trying their hand at it again with Triangle Strategy. It might not end up being my favourite game, but at least they're
trying. That's why I'm happy FromSoftware are making a new Armored Core. Even if it's really different, it can introduce the series to a new generation of players. And maybe if it does well enough, they'll be more inclined to remaster the games that I
do love.
