On the other hand, it's not like this pandemic only just now started. They've had lots of time to stall, and I'm pretty sure a lot of other countries have been telling them to wait it out.
On the other-other hand, I feel bad for the kids who have been working hard at making it into the Olympics and would hate to see them unable to compete because they had to delay.
Already postponed from 2020, and TV doesn't want the Summer and Winter Olympics in the same year, as history showed that Winter Olympics viewing numbers improved by separating them from the Summer Games...let's face it there's a lot more sports the average American will watch in the Summer Games vs the Winter, and those American eyes and wallets are what matters to those broadcasting the Olympics.
So Japan gets the super short end of things...and what they end up losing could result in permanent changes to how we handle these Games in the future. The 2014 Sochi games resulted in the most expensive Winter Games in history and left Russia with essentially an abandoned city. The logic behind having a nation spend billions on a 2 week event and calling it a "gift" to host is beyond me.
