I always think its funny people talk about people with high BMI as a health risk while vice versa with low BMI (underweight) there are other health risks which are as dangerous.
This is a social issue, though. It's more socially acceptable to be "too skinny."
Also a problem, just not the one I'm highlighting at the moment.
BMI isn't awesome. But it isn't the boogeyman a lot of people seem to think it is, either. It is imperfect, it is not entirely useless. I don't want to defend it to stalwartly, as it
does have major flaws and shouldn't be used alone for anything, especially not for determining costs of treatment nor insurance premiums.
But people who complain that it misrepresents them are -- in the U.S. at least -- frequently people who are using this as a bit of dodge to excuse their obesity.
