Is anyone making one of those "What are you Thankful for" threads this year?
If not copy pasta my Facebook status >.>
Every year I find myself trying to think what I am thankful for. The last two years I have ended up unemployed for the holidays, so it gets easy to lose sight of things to be grateful for, but I think I can come up with a few things.
Right now no one is trying to build a pipeline through the graveyard where my Grandfather is buried or the land my family live on and I don't have to protest to try and protect them getting sprayed with tear gas, freezing water, and rubber bullets, so I am thankful for that.
I am thankful that being a cisgender male I don't have to worry about using the bathroom I gender identify as being allowed, or getting the ***kicked out of me or being murdered for dressing the way I feel comfortable.
I am thankful that my religious beliefs won't require me to be included in any potential government registries or cause me to be part of any watchlists.
I am thankful for being white! I don't have to worry about my heritage causing my home or vehicle to be vandalized. I don't have to worry about my personal safety when doing something as simple as going to a Walmart to get groceries.
On that same note, super grateful for white privilege, which allows me to CHOOSE whether any of these issues are actually important to me, or if I just want to go on with my life pretending that there is nothing wrong, that racism doesn't exist anymore, that everything is fair because it sure looks that way everywhere around me and my magic white bubble!
Super serious though, I am thankful, really truly grateful that I have friends and family who understand why I choose to get upset about these things and why sometimes I just can't ignore it and let it go anymore.
