Basically it allows for a lot of different configurations, but for Alley she gets 60 unpaid additional "sick" days. When she calls in she specifies if it is normal sick time or FMLA, and as long as she doesn't use those all up she can't be fired for attendance due to illness.
I get your paranoia Jet, and I have suggested she just triple check with the union about pushing her hours down, anything below 34 makes me nervous because you start looking at that generally as part time.
Aside from that she has full union protection unlike me, she is not provisional, and as far as her health goes she was diagnosed after she started working there, so there is a whole slew of crap that would be involved if they fired her for illness related crap at this point.
