Man, so I did my first day's work for pay in like a year. The job I got was called, "Tire Handler." So I was thinking I'd be working at a tire shop, taking tires off and on cars etc. I found it cause of this temp agency or whatever.
Well... turns out it was actually a Tire Handler for tractor trailer tires at a tire recycling plant. Basically my job is to offload hundreds and hundreds of tires that are bigger than I am, and load them onto a conveyor belt that takes them up to this shredder.
Today, my first day, was an easy day. They were doing a blade change with the shredder, so all I had to do was go get tools from across the plant, and then bring them to the maintenance guys. Got to hand tighten some bolts, insert the blades and fingers into the shredder. Some of those shredder pieces weigh like 70 pounds.
After lunch I got to offload some tires. I'm really bad at it, and I'm not in shape, so after like, an hour and a half I was seeing spots. Tomorrow is going to be interesting. I've got a feeling they're gonna tell me I'm too slow at some point, but really all I can do is try my best and hope that they don't go, "Well, this temp isn't working out. Get another one. Sorry man, we're sending you back to the temp agency."
On the brightside, my co-workers are awesome guys seems like. Also one of them is some dude I had a weightlifting class with in freshman year of high school. Ain't seen him in 12 years, remembered him right away though. I hope I can make this work, because it pays $11 an hour.
