No idea, never thought to try one xD
In Windows, I think you need to get something to reconize the PS3 controllers, mine didn't work and some of them were wired.
I was going to pick up an xbox 360 which should work fine but saw a logitech one cheaper, it's ok but the D-pad is crap and after a few hours of playing ffxi, it's already feeling like it's worn out. Oh well, lesson learned, might just pick up a candy xbox 360 one.
Had to configure it to FFXI but after that, been having a blast.
<(._.)> Hate to say it, FFXI still holds up and IMO, find it to be more enjoyable than FFXIV.
an F310? weird, I have a few and usually have more issues with the wire than anything (over time).
There's a thread around for getting a PS3 controller to work, but I imagine it's a bit different now since most of the previous guides and methods were to get it to show up as a direct-input device (which in reality you could still do).

I feel ya brother.
As for the controller, strange. I'll see if I can find the thread later that details how to get a PS3 controller working without motioninjoy.

Basically don't use motioninjoy, but there's wrappers to use for the PS3 controller, you don't need to deal with getting the "triggers" working part of that dialogue as of a few months ago SE added x-input support to the game. As long as the controller config lets you config the buttons you're good. (To tell how it's being seen and whether or not to enable x-input in the FFXICONFIG is to go to gamepad config in windows and see if the L2/R2 are being seen as buttons or an axis, if buttons then don't enable the x-input in FFXICONFIG, if an axis then enable it.
I've never actually used those methods as I stopped using a PS3 controller for the PC, but I'm sure you can figure it out.

That's cause in XI you can get on and do your own thing, without having to wait around for 3 to 7 other people to come do stuff with you. World's more immersive, you actually spend all of your time in the game world itself and not in instances.
XI is a world.
XIV is a game.
Well put sir. *Gives him a bowl of cookies*
i also 100% agree with arte on that FFXIV is way to fast pace for my taste as an MMO.
It just throws you in with 0 hesitation. I'm not gonna say XIV is worse then XI. They both have problems so neither one is perfect.
Now mind you if I could get back into XI I probably would in a heartbeat. XI has that kind of feeling Dark Souls has, it's tough as hell but when you actually get ***done it feels so rewarding.
One of the reasons I asked how much a transfer cost. I might go back to it in the future during down time in XIV, but it would be pointless to go back to it only to sit in my MH because I don't like the flavor of the month jobs at the moment or am missing gear from the content I need to do to get gear.
XIV is designed for ease of access on a patch by patch basis(major patches that bring new gear). It's very easy to put down and pick back up. It's very easy to get on and do "relevant" content. It's very easy to catch up. It's very easy(mind numbingly unforgiving raid system aside). Combat is conceptual, and each job that fulfills a role is basically the same but just different enough that to play each job to its potential you have to learn new/different tricks. Essentially, once you reach a certain level, that's all there is to playing the game. All that actually changes ahead of you is fight complexity or a need for higher mathematical advantage(gear). Lore and storyline wise, the Storyline got better in Heavensward, but the lore of everything just feels like it's the husk of 1.0 from what I've seen. Almost like a, "Did you do the summer reading?" kind of feel. A large portion of the playerbase doesn't even care about the story. They skip all cutscenes, which you can do thanks to the quest marker system, and then complain later when the game bores them.
XI, as most of you know, at least until recently, had almost zero structure or objective conveyance. The specifics of the battle system's math took years and numerous testers and people to figure out. There are no quest markers. There are very few instances. Until recent years, traversing the world took time, even if you had outpost warps. Gear swaps were possible and pivotal. Some jobs required more gear to do their job than others. Gear was all that mattered for job performance, but the way I've always viewed it is, is that the gear that you got that let you farm and fight for the best gear was good enough to beat those opponents, so all you were actually gearing for in XI was fight efficiency(the same can be said for XIV, but this largely depends on the individual care/skill level of your static or party and is largely out of your control). XI was largely played for an almost cinematic kind of enjoyment. No skipping cutscenes(though I know there were some people who mashed confirm to scroll the dialogue afap). No duty finder. No party finder. Less replaceable roles(both good and bad thing), more value per player character than in XIV. Almost every zone had a unique musical theme(more true in later expansions). Of course, it's never been a game of convenience. I always thought their intention with things like lottery spawns, timed spawns, and all that, was to purposely lower the amount of people with NM items/make NM encounters wildly exceptional. Players being players of course, figured out the timers, lotteries, placeholders, and all that jazz and would sit to farm NMs(regardless of the usually miniscule advantage the items offered). Since the playerbase wasn't uniform in its ethnicity and nationality(no NA server groups or EU server groups), everyone was expected to do their best and usually did(Elitism culture). It was and is a game of commitment(which is why I always laughed at the warning statement on login that basically TLDRs to "Don't forget about real life").
Spoilered for length/topic. Isack if you did come back to XI, I wouldn't worry about the endgame or flavor of the content job status quo. I'd focus on getting up to snuff just for the storyline missions for Adoulin and RoV(something I'm still doing, because I've been waylaid by XIV patch/Japan trip). Definitely come to Sylph :3c Jeanpaul has bath tub.

Definitely come to Sylph :3c Jeanpaul has bath tub. You'd be surprised how many materials I've saved up to craft bathtubs for people who come to Sylph. Also, I want to turn my Mog House into a sauna.

Did someone mention a sauna?
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
