In his Live Journal blog, Martin said that he's also disappointed that "The Winds of Winter" is not yet done. Everyone, including his fans, editors, publishers, HBO, and others, is disappointed since he was expected to finish the book at the end of last year.
He revealed that there are already lots of stories written, in hundred pages and dozen chapters, but he admits that it is still far from completion. "But there's also a lot still left to write. I am months away still... and that's if the writing goes well," he said. The author also said that he have a lot to rewrite, as well. "I always do a lot of rewriting, sometimes just polishing, sometimes pretty major restructures," Martin shared.
He also admits that it concerns him that "Game of Thrones" was able to catch up with the books, which causes complications because it's "revealing things not yet revealed in the books, etc." When he first didn't make it to his own deadline last Halloween, the author revealed that it depressed him. "I tried, I promise you. I failed," Martin sadly admits.
The last promise that the author made is that "The Winds of Winter" will be "pretty good" when it comes out eventually, and that he'll keep writing. "Chapter at a time. Page at a time. Word at a time. That's all I know how to do," he concluded.
I'm so upset at this guy.
If you read the actual blogpost he wrote some time ago you can tell he feels awful about it, and tbh I understand his situation too. Writing can go hella slow sometimes.
But still this is all pretty upsetting. I'm not one of those people who ***on the show cause it's all "I read the books you peasants!", but still I very much enjoyed reading first and watching after.
I guess I can take comfort in the fact that 80% of the show will be fanfiction cause they went way far from the original with certain decisions.
