It's 8pm, still early to be hungry for me but tonight I'm making chicken and that stupid thing always takes forever to cook...maybe I should get started.

Stupid chicken, cook faster.
Just double the temperature and it'll cook twice as fast! Meanwhile, I'm making some rice despite recently doing the "I forget how rice works" thing and making way too much.

Rice has a fairly reasonable measurement to hunger system. Generally one cup is a reasonable serving if you're moderately hungry. One and a half if you're starving, and two if you're brave or serving for two.

Sorry, my Imperialism is showing ._.
I mean 250 millilitres.

I suppose someone as petite as you could diminish my formula in half. Especially if you're using rice to compliment your dish rather than make it the primary medium.

I triple rinse my rice before I cook it.
Something I learned in school, is that how you rinse, and the number of times needed to wash off the starch greatly affects it's cooking time, the taste, and what you intend to use it for.

That said, I tend to cook enough rice for 3-4 servings. Yay soy sauce!

I can't be the only one that would find it awkward to measure out rice by grams rather than liters, am I?

"Cup" as a unit of measurement for volume (liquids and stuff like sugar, rice, etc). We're really good at coming up with names of things that are already things.

Anyway, the rice I had cooked the other day was 3 cups dry, dunno how much after cooking. Ate it over the course of the evening.

You actually measure rice in a measuring cup, as you can do with many other non-liquid foodstuffs and ingredients.

Jeebus, learn how to cook.

This is something I need to start doing. I underestimate how starchy rice gets sometimes, and I think my dishes could be greatly improved by simply rinsing it out. Good time to buy a wire strainer now.

Actually unless you need to cook for many people we just go by sight. You pour in the plate and see how much you need.

Anyway yeah, never seen anyone measure food by volume instead of mass.

I never used a strainer for rinsing my rice. I just simply used a bowl or other dish, then drained the water by tilting it into the sink, and covered the rice just enough to keep it from draining with the water.

1 cup = 250 millilitres
= 16 2⁄3 international tablespoons (15 ml each)
= 12.5 Australian tablespoons (20 ml each)
≈ 8.80 imperial fluid ounces
≈ 8.45 U.S. customary fluid ounces

There's like 7 different 'cups' on wiki

Rice is relatively low in carbs compared to other grains, and higher in digest-able fiber and protein.

Also absorbs the flavors of other foods really well, so bacon up that rice.
