There were actually a few islands off the coast of Okinawa, Japan going for about 2.5mil US a piece. One of them had a super awesome home built, but the house was far too big for my taste to live there alone.

Some of them are the size of small cities, but they aren't developed in any way, and come as is. So you're really only paying for the land which has little to no natural resources. Hence the reason why they're so cheap.

There was one island I saw worth 15mil that was the size of Calgary. I want it.

I'd make it an Anime/Manga convention Haven.

Satellite Internet seems to be the best option, so you'd better hope for a damned good provider, but otherwise not anymore expensive than anywhere else.

Depends where it falls. Outside the U.S. not much, inside pricey, but not over the top.

National currency does require, in this day and age, proper filing and permission from the UN as a means to be recognized as a nation.

Bitcoin, for example, was an independent currency, but not an independent national currency, so it didn't require any such loopholes.
