Random Thoughts.....What Are You Thinking?

Where I'm from (which is close to the "American English" standard, or so I'm told) it sounds the same. Meteor and meatier are pronounced almost exactly the same with the "o/e" being the only change really.
Meteor - meat-ee-ore
Meatier - meat-ee-er

They totally sound different to me!

for Non Japanese people, they do First/Last. For Japanese people it's Last/First.

They view the rest of the world as non-Japanese. Even if you are of a foreign descent and were born in Japan, you're a non-Japanese to them. I know a girl who was born and raised in Japan, and she's of Indian descent and she told me that people treated her like a foreigner cuz of it. They're quite Xenophobic.

It's not Japanese people translating the manga though, it's done in the west.

Here in Sweden they do a great job with translations and even write notes about translations when there's a joke or something that doesn't translate well. Frieza made a joke about his pride (hokori) being hurt by all the dust (hokori) and they included that in the space between panels. They *** up on Luffy though and wrote Ruffy even though you clearly see his name on the wanted poster.

Yeah, and my point is, for it to look appealing and understanding to the westerners, they translate it as First/Last instead of Last/First.

The way you worded your previous post it made it seem as if they were being translated in Japan and they changed the order of the name when shipping to the west.

Anyway, it's just something that annoys me but it's not something that screws up some of the translation, which is what I was getting at before.

It's correct both ways.

The Japanese ru is also written as "lu" in a different romanji conversion (forgot the name of it). It's more of like a combination of the two, but sounds more like ru than lu.

Plus Ruffy sounds a bit rough =P

It's not correct when the author clearly writes the name out as Luffy on the wanted poster. He writes all the names in English.

A 900 years old viking rune has been translated and it turns up it just reads as "kiss me".

Lol at our archaeologists spending time translating some viking teenager's carving!

It's actually really awesome that they figured it out. The reason why they did it was because it was in an old runic code that we had no knowledge on how to decipher it lol

I applied for a few internships. 2 replied. Were supposed to have skype interviews with them. Both didn't say ***on skype when i messaged them all day yesterday.

One place is an online college/high school that was recently established (2011 i think it was). This one I actually set a time for the interview.

Another place is an online translating internship. I contacted them on Tuesday and they replied unprofessionally with things like "i will call u in 20 once im done w/ this current call" (aka using internet grammar). Told them I was a bit busy that day and that I'd like to talk Wednesday. When I contacted them on Wednesday they didn't reply at all.

*** a. If noone else replies by the weekend, I'm not using internships.com ever again. (you can only reply once per new message you get, so I can't go "Hey, you didn't say anything yesterday" to them =/ fml
