So I want to play Dark Souls again (I have still never beat it)... but the reason I always get side tracked is because it is a little to open ended.

However, the game is amazing. Not to hype it up or anything. The gameplay is decent, in my opinion. This isn't a hack and slash game, so you're not going to get anything crazy cool looking during your battles, but it's REALLY methodical. You can't rush, you have to plan your attacks and think ahead, while being aware and keep your reactions ready in case something goes unexpectedly, which it should, because the game is great like that.
The game is hard, but it's not unfair. In scenes where you think something is impossible and you would have died no matter what, the game always gives you hints on what's about to come. At the very least, if you keep your safety at the top of your priority at all times you'll out live any "traps" the game throws at you.
Also, the game is a very rewarding experience. There haven't been many times in my life where I got emotionally excited, happy, ecstatic, thrilled, PROUD to defeat a challenge. You feel such satisfaction for overcoming the challenges in the game that you just want more. As long as you don't get turned off the first 5 minutes for w/e reason... some people just don't "get it" and that's fine... you really should push on and do your best.
There is nothing in this game that will prevent you from completing it except for yourself. As long as you try to learn the mechanics, and keep your mind open to learn more as you play, and NOT BLAME THE GAME OR THE CONTROLLER OR LAG OR W/E... you'll appreciate the game for what it has to offer.
It's not the prettiest game, it doesn't have the most well rounded battle system, it doesn't have the most interesting story, but it does everything very well. It's a masterpiece in my opinion that very few games have ever reached, and is why I hold it as my #1 game of all time, but that's just me personally. I mean, I've played this game for a long time and I'm STILL learning stuff even today. I'm still learning about the story and I'm still curious about the world and the lore and hold onto it because it's been such a great rewarding experience for me that makes any other game look like a complete joke now.

Just play the game, and try to overcome what it throws at you. Don't let yourself give up, only you can beat yourself, the game wants you to win it's just not going to hold your hand give it to you, so keep trying. Don't worry too much about the story, it's way too complicated and in depth that you're better off learning about it after you beat the game.
If you need help on where to go, you have like... 30 or so people on this site that have played the game before that can give you a hint to point you in the right direction if you need it. Don't be afraid to ask.
