It has come to my attention that dogs at work understand English. O.o!!
We have three pit bulls who regularly wander around work. Buddy, a young and spunky male who is very protective and territorial (in other words, don't walk up on him if he doesn't know you), there's Tee Bee, a three year old girl who just wants to play with everyone, and there's Puppet, an ancient girl who just wants a nap.
Tee Bee and Puppet and I have always gotten along great. They come sit by my table and ask ever-so-sweetly for scratches behind their ears and lay down by my feet and are sweethearts in general.
Buddy, not so much. I've been working there about 2 months, and he's been wary of me and I've ignored him. I love dogs, but I'm not going to force petting onto a wary pup. Nope nope nope! I want to keep my hand, thank you!
Anyways. Today Buddy was sitting behind me a few feet, and I told CCL that I was pretty sure he was still of the opinion that I shouldn't be working there, he hadn't accepted me into the pack yet. She said nonsense, and I said that at any rate I would keep ignoring him until he made the first move to let me know otherwise. Not even ten minutes later I got up and went to get something, and he walked up to me, pressed his nose into the palm of my hand, nuzzled and licked it, then rubbed his head against my palm. Yay! Accepted by Buddy!
Then later I was petting Tee Bee and noticed a little black thing on her, like a spot of tar. I was on my way out and told her that she should show that to her dad (he works there of course, all three dogs have owners in the building. He was sitting a few feet away.) When I came back in, he was petting her and he told her that she should go tell me thank you because I had noticed the tick on her and alerted him. And she came up to me and asked for petting! She went and showed my coworker her spot when I told her to, she knew who I was and came up to me when he told her to. Buddy and Tee Bee know English! Meep!
And it has also come to my attention that I might need to invest in a hefty pair of headphones and download some music onto my phone. D:
We listen to Pandora, and anyone can add their taste of music to the mix. Well, one of the new guys added a bunch of creepily weird songs. Today he was playing something that went "I wanna truck you like an animal! I wanna fill you from the inside!" And I wasn't going to say anything, but it was really not work appropriate. At all. And then he started singing along! It was awkward and creepy, but I'm not going to whine about someone else's musical taste. They have the right to listen to whatever they like. If it creeps me out or I think it's not work appropriate, I should takes steps to avoid listening. Hence, headphones and my own music! :D
Bonus: It would keep CCL from preaching at me every day. Ever since she found out I am an atheist, she's been inventing ways to bring god into the conversation somehow every single day. I'm not going to tell her that she can't talk about something she's passionate about, but at the same time I have no interest in hearing about it each and every day. Once or twice a week is MORE than often enough, thanks! She used to do drugs when she was younger and once when she was high, some guy told her that he was god and she believed him. So now she is CONVINCED that she personally knows god, and I don't have the heart to tell her that it was a joke from some troll who thought he was being funny lying to a high girl. I don't want to break her heart! I just don't want to hear about it every day! Headphones, save me!
I'll just have to get my supervisor's permission of course.
