The way it was taught here is since its 1 bracket, its all done in order,if it was 2 sets of brackets, its done seperately.
Idk about canadian math, but I can discount every american that argues lol
We use the same thing only just call parentheses brackets in school because it is easier for kids to remember. If there were multiple sets of brackets in there that could mix it up some

Well I'm just saying I read it the way it was taught here :x
So I guess we're both right in our own way.
edit:
Google also adds more parentheses.
(5 - 1 + (5 x 2)) + (20 / 2) = 24
Thats pretty much the same as the way it is taught here. 5 x 2 is in its own seperate bracket so worked out seperately and the answer added to the entire equation

The difference is American/Canadian math learners can solve both formats the same way. :3

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
