I hate developers who put useless pranks in games. Worst one is in Lunar The Silver Star. One of the chest you open near a npc. The npc blocks your path and demands all your money to get back out. That *** won't let you out until you agree to give him all your money. Made me rage, lost a few hours of grinding for gold. Not everyone saves frequently in game.
Is the first game any good? I was looking at it.
Went out to eat with friend. Sushi buffet at Ru San's. So much for trying to lose some weight. I lost 2 lbs this month. Probably gained that back already just now. ><
I enjoyed the first game. Game is definately not for everyone. Closest games I can think of similar game play to Etrian Odyssey is Arcana(SNES) and Shining the Holy Ark(Sega Saturn). You can also try out the game on desmume emulator.
First person turn based RPG. You start with 3 skill points and you can assign the skill points any way you want to as you level up. Assigning certain skills will unlock others. Also at level 30-70 you can rest your character which resets all your skill points but you end up losing 10 levels. You can also retire a character which deletes your character at 30-70 but you get slight stat and skill bonus on a new character you make.
The difficulty of the game evolves around what class you pick and what skills you unlock. Some classes are very overpowered especially the Medic and Troubadour. While the Ronin and Hexer are 2 special classes that sucks in Etrian Odyseey. If you want the game to be more challenging don't use a Medic or Troubadour.
There are total of 30 dungeon floors which you descend down. Every 5 floors has a boss. Total of 6 stages or they call it stratems. You can map out the dungeon as you go through the game. Most quests early on are pretty useless. There are only a few quests that give you anything decent. This game is somewhat challenging. Especially when you start out and not knowing how to distribute your skill points properly. You can die very easily if you don't know what your doing. Once you learn certain skills and know what your doing the game gets easier.
TLDR: Etrian Odyssey II is better than the first game. I would just play the second game over the first. Both games have exploits to make the game easier but the second game definately fixes a lot of minor things in the first game. Like horrible fonts where you can barely make out certain words. Being able to save in the dungeon and not just the town. Extra storage place although they charge you to store a item which is totally not worth it early in game. Key items not taking up your inventory space in the second game. Rare item drops are much easier also in the second game which I wouldn't call a improvement but first game has some serious grinding if you want some of the best items.
