So, I work with a girl (she only works part-time mornings) who is probably my age, but she has a form of autism that makes it so she can't speak. She can pretty much only say "No." So she sings no, she shouts no, she says no, no matter what anyone is talking to her about. She can write eloquently, she can understand others perfectly well, she simply can't express herself through speech. And she LOVES Disney.
So, we listen to Pandora every day at work, and it's mostly classic rock. Someone added dubstep to the mix and I shall never forgive them. And the first Friday I worked there, they played a Disney-only channel. I was PSYCHED. Jamming out and singing along and having a spiffy time, and people got the hint that maybe I like Disney songs a little bit.
Anyways, not long after, someone added Disney to the mix. I finally figured out who it was, and I bragged him up to the boss in front of him for being nice and adding Disney to the mix for me. And he said I was welcome, but it wasn't for me, it was for the autistic girl.
And I don't know, when I thought he did it for me it was sweet, but when I knew he did it for her it was 100 billion times sweeter. People who are nice to autistic/special needs people are just great. And I was perfectly capable of adding Disney myself if I wanted it. She is not. She can't add anything herself, she can't communicate to others what she would like added. She's on her own as far as the Pandora mix goes.
Anyways, I work with nice people! And I've noticed them ALL being nice to her in little ways like that. :-) Makes me happy!
