You're basically getting .1 GHz faster processor, and 2MB larger L3 cache (the biggest difference between the two).

I wouldn't say that's worth an extra $100, but I don't require top performance everything out of my PC right now.

For what it's worth, the i5-3570k is what I just ordered.

And the virtual cores. IF you ahve a program that utilizes 4 cores teh i7 stronger because it's virtual cores.

I'm sure my new PC will look fine running at 1280x720, but I'm looking forward to the day I get a full 1920x1080 monitor.

What CPU and GPU are you running now?

I just got the i5-3570k I mentioned, and I'll be ordering a GTX660ti (3GB model). Curious to know what to expect on the benchmark for XIV.

Oh, good catch! I didn't look into the i7 series that much, so I totally missed that.

my processor is still the meh 3.1Ghz dual core, but I super charged the rest of my comp lol. I got a new motherboard, video card, bumped up to 8 gigs of ram. And a new power supply. The fans built into this case are dynamite...I ran the bench while chatting on FB and surfing other pages, and my Core still never got above 45C.

The new video card:

I have an i7, and I now realize I never use it to its max. Only in benching will you truly see an i7 out do an i5. For gaming i5 is more than enough.

Sweet, that makes me look forward to testing it out once I get my PC built. I wonder if I can break 9k on the benchmark. :D (At 1280x720 I doubt it'd be THAT hard with the setup I'm putting together.)

I had always heard the i7's were overkill for just about anything currently out... That's why I didn't bother looking into them much when coming up with my current build.

I did go with a slightly different case than the one I linked you the other day.

Your text to link here...

It was an instant $10 off, another $10 off at checkout with the promo code, and I get a $10 rebate.

That's helpful. I'm also putting in 8GB, but it's a single stick.

This one.

I wanted as much room for additional RAM expansion down the road as I could possibly get.

I'm trying to maintain my good attendance record! How am I going to maintain 80+ hours of sick time if I use it? :o

Actually, in the past year, I've only missed three days... Two of them when I was in the hospital, and another to get my son to the dentist when he had busted his tooth.

I'd feel bad calling off. Sadly, those people need me.
