Nothing wrong with acknowledging that we're different. It's when those differences are used as reasons to discriminate that it becomes a problem. I can't really agree with Freeman though. As it is now, I think it does a greater disservice to ignore those differences as it creates the illusion that racism is a thing of the past.

You're right. It's a tricky tightrope we're walking. On the one hand, if we up and ignore it, it's like we're turning our nose to hundreds of years of culture that needs to be embraced. On the other hand, dwelling on it just perpetuates the concept that racism still exists. Still, I like how he mentions that black history is American history, as people of this culture are just as much American as anyone else. If anything, don't call it out in particular, whether in a positive or negative light. Again though, tricky subject.
