So i know in years past the easy choice would be to take the gil. But is that so easy anymore? I mean lots of endgame stuff nowadays can't be bought with gil anymore. i.e empyrian/magian, AF3, etc. I personally have found myself with not much to spend gil on anymore. So with that said, would you still take that 100 million rank 1 prize or go with something else?

Technically you can buy the empyrean stuff and whatnot with gil but... Abyssea is easy enough as it is, is it really necessary? You can go in there and get gil rather readily too by a couple of methods. In the end it's the choice of the individual; would they rather save a couple of weeks and grab a premade Empyrean, or would they like to take 90-100 million gil and buy the items, along with whatever else they want?

This also raises the question: if you're going to buy everything, why make the relic in the first place? What are you going to use it on?

The choice is obvious, Futsuno Mitama, so can know what it's like to have a golden turd.

I was actually just thinking this same thing about an hour ago. Pre abyssea I would have taken the gil hands down. Now though I find myself needing gil a lot less than before so the it does make the decision harder.

Assuming I could actually find a group to merc Empyrean items for me at a good price, that still leaves me with a lot of gil that I have no real use for... If I won rank 1 I'd get an Empyrean and be happy with the time I save over grinding one out, even if it is only the level 85 version. If I need gil later I can always farm it up.

It's funny,
actually,
how this time, due toSE's clear lack of thought into possible new prizes for this Bonanza, I'd be almost happier to win a PCA as Rank 4 rather than a Prize 1 Salvage, HNM, PW, AV Rank 1 Reward.
All of those drops now have either become fairly easy to achieve (to some extent, easier to obtain than a PCA for example) or utterly gimp and nearly useless!

Obviously, I did not keep Empyrean weapons into consideration because they may be considered the best Prize 1 item now, unless of course you were the kind of guy that would take the 100M to make real money out of, something which, frankly, considering how much an average player has invested in both time and money on this game, should be kept in consideration nowadays.

That being said, I'm pretty disappointed no AF3+2 armor or Mythic / Relic weapons were kept into consideration as possible Rank 1/2 Prizes. They are much harder to obtain still than many of the other prizes available now.

Let's not even mention stuff like Herder's subligar being part of a Bonanza Prize!!!

Personally I'd go for the 100M to finish my Relic GA and be nearly done with the game, since Bravura was my long sought goal to feel like, "Ok, I've played this game long enough to actually achieve something good and be done with it."

Perhaps because abyssea is addon stuff, therefore, maybe they wanted to keep the prizes to just core game areas.

1) Emperean
2) D. Chapeau
3) Arcane Robe
4) Altruistic Cape
5) An Arch Angel statue

Stuff I could get if I tried, but usually can't be on for long enough periods to actually get.

I'd say a clear lack of focus and drive on SE's side.

They probably thought they'd be done with FFXI by the time they came out with XIV and then got double screwed by the rising rage over XIV's failure and XI's loss of development effort, which consequently pushed them to pull out as much stuff as they could out of their *** to keep players playing on both sides.

Edit: Panicking minions always blow up
