So I broke down and pre-ordered the collector's edition.

24 hours and 35 minutes here. And although I definitely won't be forking over an extra hundred for an artbook (albeit a nice one) and dragon statue, I am highly considering ordering the soundtrack.

I mainly got the collector's edition because of the art book and making of inside. I'm a total sucker for stuff like that. The leather map is a nice touch, and the dragon would look nice for my mantle of nerdiness.

Is it leather?

I thought it was "something similar to burlap" or something like that. Or does the Collector's one differ from the pre-order map?

Oh, well, leather-like anyways. Similar in texture I presume.
But honestly I couldn't care less about the statue or map, but the concept art and all that jazz is simply astonishing, and having it in book form give it a tangible warmth and charm that no high res file download or scan can replicate.

Yeah, I've heard that the book is pretty nice. I watched a Gamespot unboxing and they said it felt really well made. Looked thick, too.

I'll probably buy the soundtrack. CE is cool and the dragon statue is probably worth the extra cost, but eh, I don't really collect statues.

A few nights ago I checked online to see if my local EBgames, where I preorder it, were doing midnight release. The site listed about 4 in my city that were but not min, but on my way to work yesterday thought why not double check with a call.

Thankfully they said they were, so went to work happy. While I was getting ready to leave I got a call from EBgames reminding me about the release on the 11th (like they need to tell me that lol) and to let me know about the midnight release.

Ugh... encountered a few bugged quests... one where i have to kill a bandit chief, but i alrdy killed him.... and now the waypoint is on his dead body, lol.... and i cant continue this questline.... hopefully they patch it soon...

How is it that game developers get away with so many quest/storyline bugs at the time of the game's release?

I'm not an avid RPG gamer outside of the Final Fantasy series, but for example, I have played Baldur's Gate II and Dragon Age II, the former on PC, and the latter on PS3. Both games had a TON of bugged questlines and such, and had to be "patched" dozens of times to rectify the issues and allow the stories/quests to be played-out all the way.

Sounds like Skyrim will end up being the same way?

Here's what I don't understand, and maybe someone with more knowledge and experience on this topic can help me out ...
Before PS3 and XboX360, where titles obviously can be updated via an internet connection, if/when you bought a game, it was DONE, and "bug-free". If it wasn't bug-free, which was rare at least for the really popular/anticipated titles, then people would find out, and not many people would bother buying the game.

So, are game developers just lazier nowadays? Are the platforms so much more complicated that a greater amount of glitches and bugs are inevitable? Are titles being pushed out on to the market too quickly before proper testing can be completed? All of the above? None of the above?

Building off what Psycho Slip said, you have to remember, most games these days are little more than 8hour long corridors that have bad dudes in them. These have few variables and are extremely easy to Q-A test, even for a small team.

However, the Elder Scrolls games feature layer upon layer of complexity and depth, in addition to an emergent game world that has quite literally, billions upon billions of variables. Every situation cannot be foreseen in this volatile environment. I'm not excusing them for releasing a buggy game, but I'm familiar enough with their designs that I never expect it to be polished to perfection.

Moral of the story: Sometimes the "Your weapon/armor looks cool, I hope you aren't important." quote, probably needs to be taken quite literal. c.c

Oh, and I guess anything with a unique name, now I'm going to be intimidated on killing anything like that, if I may not have a quest active that deals with that said-person/monster.(Be it hostile)

No, from the sound of it Baghra's quest bug is exactly the kind of stuff that shouldn't happen. The Radiant Story system should be able to recognize the target as dead.

This might be one of the "Quest progression" Bugs that will be addressed in Ver 1.1 on 11/11. I think the patch people have already downloaded is just a required patch associated with XboxLive recognizing Skyrim for achievement tracking (Hence why you will be forced to sign out if you opt to not download it)

Ahh, that sounds right lol.

I remember doing the Fighter's Guild quests, around Champion status I think? ...there was a monster I needed to loot inside some cave dealing with lights, and the dead body wasn't even there, so I couldn't even complete the Fighter's Guild questline on that person...I had to start a whole new character;; (This was on Oblivion)

My Char end up a Vampire in Oblivion for PS3 GotY edition. Didn't know anyone who also played this here and had a normal version, so started another one, and panicked everytime I had to fight Vamps. And also when i got the Xbox 360 version found out that Bows wear over use. Didn't knew that, as PS3 ones didnt.

Elder Scrolls will always be Glitchy.

Gamespot leaked their review early and subsequently removed it. No "Score" but that's not what's important.

-The Good-
» Immense world stuffed with varied tasks to perform
» Dragon battles are a blast
» Lovely art design capped by some beautiful, atmospheric touches
» Enjoyable battles that you can approach in a variety of ways
» Lots of compelling, self-contained stories to experience in addition to the main one.

-The Bad-
» Glitches and bugs frequently disrupt the immersion
» Friendly AI is often more of a hindrance than a help.

Gamespot, Destructoid, IGN, Game Informer should all be making their official reviews Live at 5:01AM Pacific. Of those, I'd really only count Destructoid and Game Informer.

Figured it was worth the bump.

Destructoid's review is now live. Pretty much unrelenting praise of a game that "Cannot be classified as art, because it pushes the boundaries of what art can be... Skyrim should be admired and feared for achieving a level of escapism unparalleled in any entertainment or art..."

I'm like that in Fallout 3/New Vegas as well. I really only take companions around long enough to trigger their quest.

I hear Companions are useful if you keep them on a tight leash though. Like staying in the "Companion command Mode" (means you can't jump) to order them to specific places and attack specific enemies.

Enjoy your armored wench.

For what it's worth, IGN's review should be up in like 5minutes. I generally don't like IGN though... If one critic circle could be accused of taking bribes for favorable press, it'd definitely be IGN.
