I snuck up behind some dragon on my horse, right up to his thighs and he just kept staring at me. I was like wtf? dismounted my horse thinking he was an NPC or something, then he go pissed and fire breathed me and my horse, made it pissed and we were both wailing on it >.>

I wanted to save this dude so bad when I went into solitude, I guess it doesn't matter if you save him or not... (LOL at the guys reaction at around 3:30)
I want to buy the house in Solitude to be fancy, and it says to talk to Firebeard but when I do, he only gives me a few chatting options. |:
There's no "court" going on and I can't figure out what I did wrong.
i think for solitude (and windhelm) you have to side and start doing quests for the faction you choose (or wait til you finish a faction's quests to get access to it when the people are replaced with your faction's people)

I bought the Solitude house and didn't do anything like that. What factions are you referring to? I haven't done any Stormcloak/Imperial quests at all.
Also...starting to notice the no magic resistance thing. I made a ring and a necklace that each gave 25% Magic Resistance...and Ancient Dragon's still take almost all of my 400+ HP out in one breath attack, a good 2/3rds of it at least.
Although my new 293 damage Dragonbane makes swift work of them anyway. :D
But its still ***. I'm a cold blooded killer. No reason for these mages to still be kicking my *** like this.

what did you do to buy it then? i wanted the house in windhelm but it seemed the only way to get enough reputation was to do the stormcloak quests

The guy you buy it from...I think he gave me a couple things to do...oh wait, now I remember. He gave me maybe one thing to do then the Jarl asked me to take some flowers or something out to the Shrine of Talos for her husband. I did that and she pretty much made me a thane. At that point I could buy a house. Technically I'm still not a thane there. To be a thane in Solitude, at least in my save file and experience, you have to both buy a house and do some random ***for the people of Solitude, and I don't know what that is really, I just wanted the house.
EDIT: I'm also fairly certain I was either done with the main storyline or near done when I bought the house as well, if that helps. At least up to the point where
You hold the conference at High Hrothgar. Maybe by siding more with the Imperials there, which I think I might have, gives you some sort of sway. Though I honestly haven't a *** clue.
Okay, seriously. I'm going to abandon my plans for San Francisco or Seattle this summer and get myself a respectable PC rig to run this baby on Ultra with mods.
I decided to upgrade my house today, and I was rather let down by the Solitude house. The house in windhelm seemed much better to me. It has 3 mannequins and a lot more places to display weapons from what I could tell.
Not sure how much research has been done on this, but can one predict so to speak on the points in which loot is determined and thus changed from mobs as well as chests?
I reloaded a saved game from one zone back and noticed the loot from mob to mob and even the chest varied greatly. Enough to warrant reloading and trying for the best drops possible. Time consuming, but well worth it. If it can be the difference between finding enchanted gear for things I haven't disenchanted yet and finding hide gear and spell books for ***I already know, it's well worth it.
On a side note I also notice this with varying instances in the open wilderness. Such as bandits pretending to be imperials, bandits killing the poor breton going after her stolen necklace, wandering bards, the "good death" orc, random necromancers, etc. etc.

You can get the Solitude house with no faction affiliation. You have to do the first quest of going to Wolf Skull cave, and I can't recall if then you talk to the Jarl, or if you have to do the second part of fighting Potema before the Jarl gives you an errand to run before allowing you to buy a house.
tl; dr I bought the house in Solitude before joining the legion. Unfortunately, the Windhelm house requires you to be either along in the Stormcloak storyline, or finished the Legion storyline and have defeated the Stormcloaks.

Same here. Considering the Solitude house costs twice as much as the next most expensive house, I was expecting something grand. It's way, waaay too claustrophobic and cluttered to be worth 35,000+ gold pieces(25,000 plus upgrades). The house in Windhelm is a ton nicer, big open hallways, huge display area, etc. Heck, the Markarth house has more space, and it's 8,000.

I killed the "good death" orc in front of some Imperials. Oh boy... They were mad. Luckily killing them removed my bounty!
If so, do tell actually. I've been constantly modding mine out and I like to compare or get other peoples' feedback on what works and what I might of not tried~
I use (in no particular order)
Enhanced Night Skyrim
Skyrim HD (HD retexture)
Realistic Water
High Quality eyes
Detailed Faces
Enhanced Blood Textures
FFXA PPI (With a more "realistic" shader injection)
Realistic Smoke and Embers
Detailed Bodies
No More Blocky Faces
Skyrim Sunglare
Nicer Snoflakes
Armor Improvement (high res retexture)
Clothes Improvement
Also .ini file tweaks. Ultra settings.
All I can think of off the top of my head, that pretty much covers it though.

No witnesses no bounty lol.
At least Solitude house comes with Jordis lol. A Jordis and Lydia sandwich with a side of Eola yes please lol....
I have well over 100k without a pc console cheat and houses in whiterun and solitude, alchemy makes tons of septims....
There's a glitch with the mannequins in my Solitude house(haven't tried it on my other houses yet) where it keeps duplicating whatever body and head armor you put on it every time you enter the house. Go go ebony armor and infinite gold, lol.
Sort of sucks I can't proudly display the Stormcloak general's bearskin armor I claimed, but at least ebony is nice to look at when I'm full up on gold. Helps off-set the ridiculous cost of that house.
Bethesda Softworks just announced the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series and the sequel to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be called Skyrim. And it'll be out next year.
Bethesda's Todd Howard introduced the game with a brief teaser showing a stone dragon and a dramatic narration that sets up the story of the next big role-playing game in the Elder Scrolls series. That teaser also dates Skyrim for November 11, 2011.
I cannot bloody wait. I've always loved the Elder scrolls series since Daggerfall.
