The elder scroll games aren't really about being balanced, not even close.

Almost all of the perks at level 100 are gamebreaking.

Double Enchantments, double summons, that sneaking perk. Hell, just take any weapons perks, make it damage +100%, throw in some crit attacks and it's special attack like making enemies paralyzed with bow and you have a broken weapon.

If you want the game to be actually balanced you pretty much have to make a character that doesn't use perks, smithing or enchantments.

My experiences with Lydia disappearing have taught me to always turn around ever so often to make sure she's still following me or at least trying to catch up (wish she could have her own horse). Though once she did disappear on me for a long time before I realized she was gone, so I started retracing all my steps and turned out she was stuck in the house where you get the Mace of Molag Bal. She also seems to have a lot of trouble if you drop off a lot of ledges and whatnot instead of going the "true path" to your destination.

So my advice would be to go back and check anywhere you went that she might have been able to get stuck. A lot of the caves in the game have places where you have to fall down a hole and she doesn't seem to do well with those either. I had her even get stuck underwater once in a cave (some rock under the water was pinning her >.>). As previously mentioned by others, sometimes she's just magically been in Breezehome sitting at the table in your room (she's not once used the other crappy room in the house).

Oh and in case anyone has yet to revive her using the console, she will lose everything she's carrying except the shitty starter sword she has when you first get her (even if you've long removed it).

Btw, anyone know how to get her to use a better bow? She uses the swords, armor, shields, & arrows I give her; but for the life of me I can't get her to use a Daedric Bow.

Take away all her weapons and only give her a bow.. My only idea.. I know she can use one, unless I just got glitched.. I gave her my Ebony bow by mistake and it's what she had equipped, and was using before I realized where my bow went... She had other weapons, so it's not like it was her only choice.. The AI is kinda stupid though.. Just force her to use it is the only way I can think of..

Lydia really is stupid though.. I kinda don't want her to die, because it's my first play through and I want to try and stay true to the story line or w/e.. So having my servant die when I envision myself as a noble warrior is kinda unacceptable. I'm definitely not bothering with her again though.. It's not like other companions are expensive or any 'worse' than she is..

Yeah, I'm the same way, I kinda want to try and keep my original companion for the first playthrough. Also, I don't know about other companions but my Lydia seems to have the Light Foot perk now. Just earlier I was exploring a cave and saw a pressure plate that I knew she was going to walk right over (I have Light Foot), and sure enough she did but it didn't go off. So I went back over it with her and nothing again, so yay no more ground traps.

Has anyone had this problem? I don't think this is a glitch, just the way the game was made. I swear it worked differently in Oblivion:

First off, my fault for leaving stuff in containers in my own house in un-upgraded rooms. But anyways, I buy my first big house that isn't Whiterun. I unload all my extra crap in a chest/barrel/cupboard etc. I save some more money, purchase an upgrade for that room, and poof! That container is gone, along with everything inside.

On my main character, I lost my Black Azura Star, 2 Dragonpriest masks, my entire main equipment sets(potion enhanced upgraded gear), the works.

Is this stuff simply placed elsewhere? Or is it really just gone? I think it's pretty crappy that containers in your house get completely removed with no warning.

I had yet to have a freeze before the patch.

I had two bad freezes last night. Fortunately, on both, I had a quicksave within a minute or two of the freeze, so I wasn't out much time beyond rebooting and getting back to the game.

Hadn't made it this far before I posted. I got a message after the second freeze stating that I needed to update my system. Wonder if Bethesda released an emergency patch on something and when PSN loaded it, all the systems locked up?

EDIT: About my little rant on picking up bounty for accidental collateral damage. Doing Thieves Guild questline, headed to the meadery from Whiterun. Blood Dragon attacks but it preoccupied by guards. He keeps landing half a mile away so I just throw fireballs at him. About his third landing, I shoot through two fences, and some stupid soldier gets between me and the dragon. Boom 40 bounty and now the eleventy bajillion soldiers that were fighting the dragon are also fighting me. I just went ahead and died so I could load the quicksave from exiting Whiterun, but the dragon shouts incessantly and my load screen hangs. Double rage.

I downloaded the system update but haven't played since, I settled for FFXI last night :/ After work today I'll check it out.

It's her default companion weapon, they have the same thing in fallout 3/NV companions, they had their own default weapons that won't show in inventory and has unlimited "companion ammo".

Is the bow you gave her enchanted? pretty sure followers will never use an enchanted bow over their own.

Mine uses Lydia's Daedric bow of Death all the time lol. Some time it does glitch out now and then but mostly shes uses that and her daedric Battle axe and kicks some ***. Nothing like her kicking *** wearing Falmer armor san the head. I some time just kick back and watch last night a Pirate ran from her and she pulls out the bow and nailed him lol.

From what I hear, you spend most fights killing your companion.

If your spending most of the time keeping them alive then your doing it wrong quite simply. The AI isn't the best but its not the worst I seen lol. The key is understanding each companion has a job class and if given upgrades in line with there class they will use them as well as POTIONS and staffs. I gave Lydia 2 staffs to hold and the next mob we fight I see she is duel wielding them and burning the mob a new ahole. From that point I gave her healing potions and upgraded her gear and now get to watch her own faces. Pretty cool in my book...

You learn how they play after a few autosave reloads, then it no longer becomes a problem. I know pretty much how Lydia is going to behave now, and fight accordingly. I can use her as a distraction, to allow me unblocked shots, I can use her as a tank on mobs that hit hard or are overwhelming me by number and just cure her, or I can tell her to wait if I know she's going to get in the way given the situation. It's actually really nice, and as far as I've seen, a vast improvement over the (having to tell each character move for move) style of npc that was present in BioWare's Dragon Age.

Hmmmm do I forge these 50 some iron ores into ingots and buy the rest from the vendor to push my smithing to 80+ or do I transmute them to gold and make ridiculous amounts of cash money? :o

Level your smithing, gold can be easily had. Ores become scarcer as you exhaust their resources.

That's true, but the smithys and even regular vendors seem to constantly have a plentiful surplus of iron ingots in their inventory that I can buy up every 48 hours or so.

Buying ores/ingots seems to be high considering what they'll offer for gold ore in return. I'd just assume make money off infinite quests (thieves guild for example) and utilize ore from the mines and loot to make gear.

I literally smithed, enchanted and upgraded myself down to under 2k gold, and after 1hr and 1 quest, I was back over 9k.

-Transmute Ores into Gold
-Sell Gold
-Buy Iron ingots and soul gems
-Make Iron Daggers and enchant them
-Sell enchanted daggers

That's probably the best way to accomplish both the money making and leveling.
But if you really want to make money, I'd simply suggest

-Buy every alchemy ingredient in every town
-Make a ***ton of potions worth 1k+ each out of materials you bought for 20 gold.

Can one go beyond that? Or are there simply diminishing returns in level progress post 50?

81 is the cap, that is the point when all skills are 100.
50 is more of a soft cap, when you reach 50 you need a LOT more skill levels to contribute to a physical level up.

People are beyond that. Your 'build' said required level of 71. The absolute max was in the low 80s, after 50 leveling speed decreases dramatically. Once you hit 50, you shouldn't really have much trouble with anything besides leveled mobs anyways, and your perks+shouts should allow you to overcome those obstacles.
