Laptop Advice, Mac vs MS - Uni related.

It doesn't have one big button :O You know what I hate about Mac?
The fact that it's looked like almost exactly the same for so long.
Not that it's bad looking, that's not what gets me.
It's the fact that they change their menu configurations ever .0001 update so that when I'm talking to customers I can never know what the hell they are looking at because we don't update our database every .00001 update.

Well then tell me instead of avoiding my question. Having the software pre-installed is negligible, I tend to dislike built in software and replace it anyway.

im surprised that apple still not changed osx interface, aqua gui looks horrible and 90ish, windows 7 is much prettier with aero glass,

It's nice that you work faster with a mac, you could save a thousand dollars if you would use a PC but it would take a bit of practice a time for you to work as fast as you work on a mac because it's a matter on habit.
If a thousand~ dollars is not worth changing your habits it's all good, just a matter of preferences and not a matter of mac > pc. i used to have pc i still do lol i still work faster with mac =)

Looks like Mac is fast at posting on forums. Must take a ***ton of ram to do that.
I started uni earlier this september doing "Computer games development" Bsc.
Our tutor pointed out the huge student discount we get on macs etc and said preferably you should buy a good laptop to do your work on. Obviously we arent expected to but for various reasons i am after a laptop and may as well make it relevant to my course.
The problem is i know nothing about Macs and dont know whether to spend alot of money on one or get something else probably cheaper with just as good specs. Bare in mind i get 15% (stated) off Macs (although ive heard i get alot more off).
So what would you guys suggest, i guess ill be using various software on it for my course and i recall my tutor saying it should have 4gb of ram and 20gb hardrive.
Is there anything im missing with macs? I can get all microsoft stuff on it if i like, such as office or msn with no problems? And what are the main plus points of macs?
