I beg to differ Bootcamp is very efficient, I think a lot of people are butthurt mac can do the same as PC and much more.
I have explained a thousand times it's as efficient, if people still want to believe otherwise their problem, I am the one with the machine that does it pretty much all.
Oh I'm sorry, you must be the only correct person out the entire group of people with more computer knowledge than the both of us that did tests using both PC's and Mac's.
Saying a Mac is more efficient than a PC is just so laughably wrong I don't even know if you're simply trying to get a rise out of people or not.
so saying a pc is better than mac isn't laughably wrong? So...You must be the only correct person out of the entire group of people with more computer knowledge than the both of us...
I am not trying to get more people into mac, I found it better for me so why shouldn't I let people know how it's been.
It's better for me, a lot of people are just butthurt mac can pretty much do ALL.
I used both mac and PC, and to me MAC has been more efficient. Can we say the same for you? I'm not even saying software wise, I'm talking machine wise.
Alienware is definately overpriced too! Actually, most people who have alienwares don't know much about the price of hardwares and just want to have an high end PC to be "cool" or they simply won one.
alienware's are crap, if you're getting a pc that expensive just get a normal one and *** the whole 'it looks good' outline and it's 'for gaming'

I saw that lol, A Mac with the equivalent of my specs was about... $2k lol. I spent like $700 building this PC.
800$ on mine but it's canadian dollars =(
see it's all about money ;p if macs weren't overpriced more people would use them.
Cough..PC means personal computer. This whole MAC - PC thing is a marking ploy started by apple to separate it's "culture" from IBM and Windows. Everything that isn't a server is a PC, be it running Mac, Windows, Unix. The difference between the two is the system architecture. Stop proliferating Steve Jobs's ego, he doesn't need your help.
I didn't know 14 could run in OSX....
-Addressing Topic-
It all depends on
A) What you are doing
B) what your personal preference is
if you want a laptop to both double in school work and gaming, you are probably better off getting a windows machine, unless you know all the fun OSX work arounds. (Most all games run on windows)
If you want a laptop specifically for school work, and you do alot of art or rendering or computational heavy stuff, hands down get a Mac. You get what you pay for, bottom line. You can run pretty much every educational software on a mac, and they have the best support team in the industry. You can get MS office, Maya, Adobe's full suit and the iSuite. that little thing is a powerhouse.
If you dont want to spend the money, or don't see its worth it, there are a ***ton of windows based machines. Now a days all the really shitty laptop makers have fallen away. Dell, Sony, Asus, Lenovo (IBM) all make quality products (i prefer Lenovo) so just find something in your price range. And for the love of god, dont buy from Bestbuy/Walmart/Circuit City UNLESS you can get a software package out of the deal (Sometimes you can haggle with them)
Also, don't listen to ANYONE who bashes and debases another hardware community. They are biased and usually have no clue what they are talking about.
EDIT - I totally forgot about Bootcamp. My apologies. Yes with bootcamp, you have the full functality of Mac and Windows in one. So really, no need to get a windows onry machine.
If you can afford it, get a Mac and try to get a deal to get 7 combo'd in.
you can run those programs in windows 7 as well, windows 7 is more faster than osx snow leopard (benchnmark results all over the internet)on top of that adobe programs works better on windows than macs, a lot of americans are just biased by apple's pretty and liar liar ads,
I have been doing grapahics design and web design/photo edit /3d in windows for years for much much less money than a mac and currently on my 700$ pc only (ati radeon 5770 quadcore)(those specs woth like 6k$ on apple's website if you compare their prices ), currently macs computer haves outdated low profile grapahics card for very expensive, you prolly need to buy the 3k$ mac do match the today's graphical needs, (thats if you heavy works with 3d renderings
it's ridiculious the price of a mac these days, they only offer you dualcores computers with outdated cards for 1.5+k$ check their website and compare, it does not worth it, you can do everything in windows with much options available, macs are only good for novice users that needs macs because it already comes with movie/website editors/templates and catchs less viruses because macs market share is low, but there is actually antivirus for osx, and games does not run so well in bootcamp, if you want all in one cheaper with full native gaming capabilities go for a windows laptop , lenovo or toshibas, sony,asus/ not dell or HP, can actually install osx on a PC as well with some tutorials that are all over google and youtube.
and would like a solid answer that why is sooo wise so go for mac if you do work, specially office works
mac doesn't even need all that power to run, sadly for windows you need like the top specs so you can run adobe programs decently lol my mac can run it all perfectly and it's way quicker for working around it.

Yes, I've used a mac and a PC. Albeit I used a mac a while a go, but PC's off the era were superior to Macs of the era.
And what do you mean 'All'? If you're spending the majority of your time in boot camp, why the hell did you buy a mac? lol.

I said i spend most of my time on OSx and i only load windows to play which is RARELY.

You do realise OSx isn't actually better for graphical software right? That's an old assumption that's been proven wrong multiple times?

funny how everyone puts words into my mouth
I mentioned like 3 pages ago I spend most of my time on OSX and only use bootcamp for gaming every now and then, mac is more efficient for me.
And lol the new mouse function is 'Right click'...
lol
have you even looked at the whole vid? or maybe i got the wrong one
http://www.apple.com/macbook/features.html
scroll down and you will see all the new features on the new trackpad.
with two fingers you can scroll, with four you go to desktop etc... browse more flion.
wait i forgot, you only think of gaming.
Because being able to put four fingers on a touch pad instead of simply clicking a desktop button would make work SO much more efficient. Or scrolling with a mouse (or with a Windows touch pad which has had that ability for multiple years).
Oh wait, you only think of buying the most expensive machine to look good.

The features are inconsequential fluff to try and make the Mac look more appealing when in reality it's inferior hardware for a higher price.

Hard-drive space =/= specs
it was an example lol you were comparing my mac to the computer at home. don't take things out of context it makes you look dumb.
I started uni earlier this september doing "Computer games development" Bsc.
Our tutor pointed out the huge student discount we get on macs etc and said preferably you should buy a good laptop to do your work on. Obviously we arent expected to but for various reasons i am after a laptop and may as well make it relevant to my course.
The problem is i know nothing about Macs and dont know whether to spend alot of money on one or get something else probably cheaper with just as good specs. Bare in mind i get 15% (stated) off Macs (although ive heard i get alot more off).
So what would you guys suggest, i guess ill be using various software on it for my course and i recall my tutor saying it should have 4gb of ram and 20gb hardrive.
Is there anything im missing with macs? I can get all microsoft stuff on it if i like, such as office or msn with no problems? And what are the main plus points of macs?
