So today my brother got a new Monster HDMI cable... at first I made a comparison to my regular... gold plated HDMI... looks exactly the same. But thing is... he swears on his life... for some crazy he is able to see the people in "MW2" faster than they see him now....

So can this actually be possible? (I think yes but idk)
So the question.... do Monster HDMI cables make the signal from your computer or console travel faster to your TV?

It could probably survive a nuclear/zombie holocaust and might slightly improve the visual/audio signal, but I honestly doubt this would give any noticeable latency between the two for playing a game.

Your brother is experiencing a placebo effect.

The truth is. No, electric signals are fast as it is, and HDMI cables are only like what 9 feet long? So the difference between a monster cable and some other brand, is the price tag and packaging. Electricity still flows the same way it always has. However, there is one thing that they supposedly provide, and that is signal interference protection. But in all honesty, regular cables are wrapped in plastic and signal interference reducing material -_-; So nvm, it's all just a bunch of bull hahah.

Monster Cable is pretty much the biggest, sleaziest ripoff in the industry. Problem is, stores happily push their products because they can sell them at a monstrous markup (pun intended). Stores get a lot more money out of selling those cables than say, a PS3, so they're more than willing to push basic cables with brand name fluff on ignorant buyers.

They also do ***like this. More details (original story) here. This is not an isolated incident, it just happened to be one that was well publicized.

But yeah, the difference in quality between what he's using and what I pull out of the bargain bin (checking it over before buying, mind you), is pretty much nonexistent.

No, this is not possible. I'm sorry to tell you, but your brother is on drugs. I could go in to details as to why, but it's not going to change the fact that this story is not possible. You should seek help for your brother. This videogame is going to consume his life, if it isn't already. Help your bro now.

see with older type of analog cables yes the quality of the material matters in the quality of the video/sound but you see HDMI uses a Digital signal and the thing about digital signals is that they either work or they don't so there is no difference unless your talking about 200+ foot cable

Even then most of the ***Monster advertises in their products is superfluous junk. Proper construction makes a difference certainly, but the quality of my audio cables is a very big deal to me and I happily live without Monster's "benefits" because I know they don't do a damn thing for the sound coming out of my speakers.

My cousin works with several audio companies, and told me that most of the cables are made by a few companies. The only difference is the end that is use by company who is selling the cable. The difference between a $100.00 cable and a $25.00 cable is what connector was used and the name on the box, plus the $75.00 difference in cost. No he does at Best Buy also, his company was the ones who did the sound system for Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis where the Colts play.

Does it cost more than other ones? Then it must be better, right?

I think I spent 40 bucks on my HDMI cable and I still felt ripped off :( but the only cheaper alternative was this shady looking 5 buck one that actually didn't look that well produced :(

Wish I'd have seen that deal lol.

Oh well, not like I paid for mine anyway xD, does what it needs to do and looks at least a little nice looking (it's got that cloth covering mesh on it, so at least it's a little protected from .. uh ... being cold?)

I've gotten ALL my cables (USB, HDMI, etc.) off eBay for like $3 max, plus shipping (and sometimes free). I've never had any issues with them.

I used to work at Best Buy - Monsters are the most ridiculous gear. Even in the TV Department as a sales rep, I refused to push them onto customers.

The graphic above pretty much explains things.

Meh, I just bought my first ever HDMI cable, it so happened to be Monster. $40, seemed to be better than every other cable out there (in terms of ends and whatnot). I dunno, I'm sure I could've found cheaper, but I'm happy with it.

Agles
They should probably get in touch with these guys too, then.

Also, my £10 PS3 HDMI cable is as good as any other cable I've seen, so like Agles said, unless you're getting one with pro soldering, you're paying for something that's the same as everything else.

An expencive HDMI cable is just as good as a cheap one as people have said the differance is the connectors, and 99% of the time the cheap ones are as good quality and its obvious if one will break in no time the £5 second hand HDMI cable i use for my ps3 works perfectly.

However even with digital signals they are subject to EMI (electro-magnetic interferance) we have this problem with computer networking as well when it eventualy gets hard for a reciving device to destinguish between a 1 and a 0, however over the few feet of a HDMI cable you would prolly have to be using it in a powerstation to get enough interferance for a noticable differance and even the cheap cables have some form of shielding.

If i were you i would get a cheap HDMI cable and ignore what your bro says about the latency £125 for a cable is such a rip off, (idk how much they are in USD)

I bought a decent HDMI cable at walmart when i first got my HD TV.... think it was 20$ or so, but only reason it was that much is because it was a longer cable.... I dont like to stretch cables to the breaking point, because you can get wear marks on them as they curve around.... and die faster
