I'd hope that 4GB was enough, with FFXIV on now, my CPU usage is up n down around 25%. Physical Memory: 62%. Chrome open, Media player and other crap open + re-running that defrag now.

I wouldn't fret the GTX465 performance just yet. If I remember correctly, the 465 is actually the newest card they released (after the top-end 480, they positioned a card between the 460 and 470.) If I remember also, the release time was very recent (like in the last month or two) long after the benchmark or the beta coding was put in place.
That being the case, it is likely the situation that the card literally is not supported (yet.)
When I first installed my GTX480 I was appalled at the poor frame-rate I got playing FFXI...I was thinking "this card should kick this 8 year old game in the touche..." So after fiddling and tweaking and playing with settings and going from a windowed mode to full screen and back again, I sent a letter to NVIDIA's technical support advising them to please try to tweak performance for the FFXI program. They then advised me that the GTX480 was not a supported GPU for FFXI.
So anyhow, while the devs are as unlikely to tweak FFXI for my card (or yours) they are likely to tweak FFXIV nearer to launch time.
The best thing you can do, if you are worried you installed it incorrectly or if the GPU itself is faulty, is to try it with other graphics-heavy programs (online and off) to see how well they run. I was concerned about my 480 at first, but after playing Champions Online and a variety of offline games like Need for Speed Shift, SIMS3, GRID, etc. they all ran incredibly smoothly. So just try out some other games (on their highest settings) to see if it's the card or if it's just FFXIV not optimised yet for the 465.

Thank you- very well said!
The card is decently new. ~6months old if that.

I'm sure as time goes by, they'll release drivers for XIV.
Expect wonderful things! The world of 29 Framerates is behind us. Lol

I would keep checking on it though. It would be bad to make such a big investment in your (newest) fave game and the devs drag their feet on making it work for your card.
But things get optomised over time. When I first tried Champions Online, the frame rate on my card was kind of choppy too, but now, a year later, it's smooth like silk. That was undoubtedly tweaking on both Cryptic's part after launch as well as NVIDIA's.
NVIDIA always tries to optimise the logistic performance support on the new cards to match the newest game release. Sadly, at times, the new drivers actually make some of the older games unplayable unintentionally. But with FFXIV so near to release, you should see some improvement soon. ;_;

I noticed that in the first post you said that "depth of field" is on. Have you tried turning this off?
I figure that this is a feature that is disabled by default, because it requires a high end cpu with a highend gpu to be able to run wtih this feature smoothly.

My 5870 gets 60 fps outside of town and runs at max GPU usage. Stepping inside town lowers my GPU usage to 60% and my fps drops down into the 20s and 30s. I'm pretty sure it's an optimization issue and hopefully they will address it before release. I don't think you should worry too much.

I'm hoping that you're right and its just optimization problems. Beta with everything maxed out is totally unplayable, around 15 fps or less. Setup is
~ Intel i7@ 3.2ghz
~ 6 gigs DDR3
~ Radeon HD 1gig 5770x2
I've tried with crossfire on and off, with little to no difference. Kinda frustrated atm since i just got this pc pretty much just for XIV -_-;.

Sorry to necro this and revive this old thread but I didn't want to make a new thread on the issue.
So on one of my ATi builds I'm having horrible stuttering and I'm not sure what the source of the problem is. It seems to be present even when I dramatically reduce settings. The visual stuttering only happens when moving the player character with the occasional drop for half a second to 1 FPS then back to 60 FPS. When my player character stands still FPS is almost always 60 FPS, moving camera etc.
If anyone has any thoughts, ideas or suggestions to help me with my problem I'd very much appreciate it.
Specs are:
psu: Generic Corsair 800watt 2x12v rail
cpu: Phenom 945 BE @ 3.87GHz
gpu: ATi XFX 5850 1GB Non Referance @ 925core/1175ram/1.225v
mobo: ASUS M4A79T Deluxe
ram: G.Skill 8GB DDR3 800MHz 8-8-8-21
hdd: Windows 7 x64 ultimate is on it's own Solid State 80GB drive while XIV is installed on a separate WD Raptor 500GB drive. Drive tested/defragged and is error free. These are the only 2 drives in the PC.
peripherals: USB logitech mic, USB logitech F510 gamepad, Generic USB 2.0 hub, various USB charging cables / USB data cables, USB logitech G15 keyboard, USB logitech G5 Mouse
Background processes: Avast, Steam, Logitech suites for mouse/keyboard/controller, Catalyst Control Center 11.2, D3D Overrider v2.0.1, google talk along with all standard system processes.
Note: I use Realtek HD onboard sound. Various other demanding games such as Crysis 2, Mass Effect 2, Metro 2033 etc all run perfectly at near maxed out settings on this PC.

RAM speed, bud. That's my guess. 800mhz is mighty slight. Use a widget and tell me how much of your cpu and ram is being used at drops.

When playing FFXI you should lower your Video card drivers too 8.0 this is where i can get full FPS for ffxi without issue it seem anything aboe 8.2 would make the game laggy and would also get AF problems in the game.
i think this is due to SE never updating it above 8.2

I think he posted the actual dram frequency and not the dual channel frequency which will be 1600 at cl8 timing.
Darkshade your problem might be the current drivers you are using. Try installing catalyst 11.2a or 11.3.

Turn off any forced driver enhancements such as transparent anti aliasing and set everything to default.

It wouldn't happen to be a Dell studio XPS 16, would it?
There might be another thread out there with most of this information. Im sorry if there is. I was wondering everyones opinions in regards to how the game is running for everyone.
I'm noticing my FPS is jumping a really lot. Sometimes I'm capped out at 60 in some spots, then I'll suddenly plumpet to 25, then work my way back up, jump by jump, then go back down. When my FPS drops like that of course my game does this big stutter thing and I would call that lag. According to SE's benchmarks, I should be running the game around Medium settings very stable.
Heres my specs.

I'd appreciate if anyone can give me their views on how this game is handling for them, and if anyone is experiencing the lag spikes that I am.
I'm running the game on the current settings:
Windowed-1600x900, No Multisampling, Buffer Size: Resolution, Shadow Detail: standard, Depth of Field on, Texture Quality: standard, and Texture Filtering: High.
Anyone suggest any settings I could change? I'm sorry for the wall-of-text.
I'm kind of hoping that the Beta is kinda glitchy towards Graphics right now, and the released game will handle better. I feel I have a fairly decent card. The benchmarks for my card is high, and I've done research that says this card can and will run major games like Aion and CoD4 at ultimate graphics. Wondering if this is SE's terrible programming towards graphics again... like 11.
