He didn't have to get a gun and shoot them. All he had to do was stay in his house til ppl got there to handle the situation.
It's as much the owners fault, as the person who shot the dog.
Sadly innocent animals got in the crossfire.
Yeah, funny we're not hearing anything from the owner.
It's just pure negligence.

Yes, i'd still feel the same way. He didn't have to shoot them. He would have been fine in his house until someone got there to handle it all.

Don't blame the guy who was defending himself solely. The owners are worse if they let it get that far.

Edit: The article also says that witnesses saw the man 'step out into the street and fired 3 shots'.. So I don't think they were on his property at all imo. :\

if an animal is loose in the neighborhood, its not your choice to take matters into your own hands. you look for a safe area to steer clear of potential danger.
him going in the house was a good choice. calling the police was another good decision.
Grabbing the gun and taking after the "wild" animal not only put himself in danger, but he couldn't shot some random person
being trigger happy.

It said the dogs got out. The owners could have been someplace else when it happened. Yeah they should have made sure the dogs couldn't get out, but it's *** up that he shot them.

My little brother has a friend who's dog is maybe 1 foot tall and can hop a 5 foot wall...-.-; I'm pretty sure a bigger dog can hop a wall even more so. :\ Also, I have 2 dogs myself and they've managed to find ways I wouldn't even think of on how to get out. ><

so whats his excuse for killing the other dog that was running away from his shooting? according to the article, he ran behind the dog retreating and shot him in the back.
is that self defense as well?

We used to have a dog that could climb the fence almost like a human, by sticking it's paws in the holes and climbing up that way... For a long time we weren't sure how she was getting out, we knew she could jump that high, we'd seen her try a bunch and she never even got close..
One day as I was going outside, I saw it with my own eyes, it was creepy looking too..
EDIT: I added this cuz it's impossible to make sure a dog will never get out, they shouldn't be shot because they found a way out.. We did our best to keep her from getting out, but she still managed to sometimes, she was chained and in the backyard enclosed in a fence, she still managed to get out sometimes.

I can name a bunch of people that would shoot any animal acting that way in a neighbor hood, and adult can defend them self against a great dane, a kid or young teenager will not be able to defend them selfs. Full grown great danes are several feet tall and way a ***ton. The reason they would do this is because they feel like the dogs are a threat to the safety of a kid that might be playing on the front lawn. It hits home when you have witnessed a dog attack first hand and how brutal it actually is. Am I saying he was right? not necessarily just saying why he may have done it.

Look at the pictures of the dogs, they are with kids, probably have gone to obedience classes, walking diligently in public etc. I doubt they were being aggressive to the man. Not even a single witness said it was aggressive, except for his friend who is his neighbour. For *** sake, look at the guys picture who shot him, he looks like a typical wife beater. I don't know what the court does to people for killing animals intentionally but I think the case has already been dropped.

Without further information, due to people being told to stay inside their homes, I have to believe these dogs were a danger to others. Whether people want to admit it or not dogs can be very vicious without any provocation whatsoever.
If this was a family friendly neighborhood there could have been concern for children in the area as well. Just a thought

Again, we don't know where this man was at the time. Also, for shooting the dogs like that must mean he's had a very bad experience with one before. He probably had emotional scars or something that caused him to act the way he did. This is a bit of an excuse as to why he shot them, but still doesn't save him from actually committing the crime itself.

there's other ways of handling a wild animal instead of killing it.
they have different ways of disarming a human being when he/she is acting wild or unusual. ppl should use the same methods for animals.
everyone wants to hurt and kill everything..

All right. I have been attacked by a dog (the same dog) twice. I was out on a walk because it was nice outside when some really big lab came out the drain ditch and started barking and growling at me... I ignored it and it left me alone. (I'm serious..) Second time I was running home from my grandma's and it 'attacked' me again. This time, however, it started chasing me because I was running. I wasn't in the mood so I stopped, turned around, and told it to "SHUT UP!!" and it left me alone... I told my mom about each incident but she said she drove past there and never saw it. (well duh it was down in the ditch..) Anyway, what I'm saying is...rabid animals know when you're scared as hell and take advantage of that.. the dog saw me running and thought I was fleeing...when I turned and yelled, it backed off.
Also,..feeding a dog, any dog really, a piece of cheese or some hot dog you've got will make them love you forever!

An animal walking/running around minding its own business isn't something you need to protect yourself from.

I personally knew these dogs, they belonged to my sister's best friend. They got out on accident, but were never any harm. In the article is clearly states he was advised not to leave his home.
Please, if you are a dog lover, sign this to help bring justice to these 2. It takes 2 mins to enter your information.
