ok. my systems proformace bottle neck is at the hard drives. and im wanting to get more bang from my system without spending $$. i have 3 HDDs. 1x 250 gig WD EIDE, 1x 250 gig WD SATA 3gps. and a 160 gig WD EIDE. my idea was to set both 250s into a raid 0. my first question is.

can it be done?

secondly.

would the proformace of those 2 in raide out proform just the 1 SATA 3gps drive?

No it can't be done

Even if it could, it'd be ***still

The only way to see an improvement is get a couple of 10,000RPM Sata3GB in a Raid configuration or use an SSD (32-64GB) or so and install your programs on it and use your sata HD for Storage.

not true, just pullin the eide hdds out of the loop will give more performance seeing on how the file system of your pc can only move as fast as the slowest part. you can buy a new 500gig 3.0 sata hdd for $55 man, cheap and simple fix

Like MD said, it's very possible but not really recommended. I've done RAID configurations with SD cards, HDDs, USB sticks and DoC modules. Google 'software raid' and you'll come up with a plethora of how-to's

well. i thought id give it a shot. being as i had to reinstall windows anyway. finaly got my ram back from kingston. had a 2 gigs go bad. now that i had enugh to reinstall 7 i figured id do so. i was going to try IDE and SATA in raid. but unforitly my board dosn't allow mixing the 2. only supports raid for sata onry. so. ill probably will bust out $50 and get another SATA drive. plan to get another gig of ram bringing my total to 4 gigs. should be plenty of proformance for a long wile

Convert them all to dynamic disks in Computer Management and initialize a RAID 0 array with whatever and however many disks you want.

Performance wise, you will not gain any noticeable boost and even if you did setup HW RAID via your on-board controller, the performance would not be anything special either.

Can you do it? Of course you can, easily too with Windows tools that are built in. Should you do it? Not recommended.
