The XP boosts use them when you're camping a zone for active events.

Crafting boosts, horde mats. I mean tons of them. I've collected 200 copper, 100 silver, and a ton of iron so far, and my alt elementalist is farming leather and cloth.

Soon I'm going to chug one of those crafting potions and go to town leveling leatherworking and JC. Should get a ton of levels out of it.

Finally got to fight the Behemoth World Boss 'Secrets in the Swamp' It's cool the loot chest at the end scales for your level.

So if the game is free to play I'm assuming there is a cash shop right? How far behind/how much do you miss out on if you chose not to use it? Considering checking the game out but not entirly sure how I feel about it atm.

Also if I do, any suggestions for server?

some of us are at Blackgate, and really, you can go without using the cash shop and be ok.
what the cash shop offers: (specific detail here)
-outfits for town, cant be used for combat
-pets that follow you around and do nothing.
-keys to open chests you might fight running around killing stuff
-super advance craft items that will give your normal crafted item a boost (?)
-combine one weapon with another to change its look
-random dyes to change your outfit

if anything, the one that actually seems useful, is expanding your bank for 400 gems, or using it to unlock your chara's last bag slot, that last one isnt much of a problem if you craft 8 slotted bags, and keep dumping materials found in storage once in a while.

The cash shop looks to be mostly outfits (No stats, on them. You can use potions to transfer stats on them)

xp/crafting potions (You can get these rarely ingame)

Character slots (you start with 5)

Some items that can revive you from death.

Nothing in it is needed to play or will put you at a disadvantage not having.

Bank Space enhancement. Nice, but not 'needed' if you don't hoard things.

Blackgate is a solid server.

The remark that I put in bold is a little off. You're probably referring to the mystic stone, which is only used as a component in the mystic forge (a big forge in the middle of Lion's Arch) that you can put 4 random items in to get a new one out (so basically, remove obsolete gear without selling it). If you use the stone, you can get some higher level stuff.

gotcha, didnt know what the mystic forge was (hence the ?), since the longest I have been in Lion's Arch is like 30 secs, crossing warpgates lol

Blackgate seems to be the place where most FFXIAHers are. I wouldn't go there. I see these *** enough as is! =P

Also what's the exchange rate for in game currency -> cash shop jewels?

1 silver = 2 gems

1 gold is 275 gems.

Also it fluctuates like a market it seems looking at the graph.

GW2 runs MUCH better then FF14 does. It doesn't use nearly as much resources. Both of my characters are Human, I think each race starts out in a different location.

Yes they're race specific but you can travel to the others easily i think. I traveled from the Asuran (yoda looking people) place to one of the other race's city (the one that looks like human but isn't) just by using an Asuran Gate. If not, they're pretty close to each other, at least Sylvari and Asura are. I like Asurans.
