I have two free trial codes left that will be active from Nov. 15 to Nov. 18. You'll have no restrictions and will be able to participate in the one-time Lost Shores event. PM me with your email address if you want one.

Recently came back to this game after a 3 month hiatus, was just as easy to get back into. Hows it going for everyone else? What do you guys think of the February update? I think they should change the name to Guest Wars 2 myself. If you are still playing you undoubtedly have noticed the increased amount of guesting that is going on at the chest events, specifically the dragons. I swear to God, we killed Claw in about 7 minutes today, we almost killed him before actually triggering the final fight on the ledge, which would have prevented us from getting the chest.
I personally understand the reasoning for the update changing the events so that you could only get 1 chest per character for each event, per day. A person could just spam the frozen maw event every 30 minutes and make a lot of gold, blah blah blah. But uh, wouldn't it have been easier to just remove the chest from that level 13 event so level 80s couldn't get golds/exotics?
The way it is now, I am making more money than before the update, which isn't that what ANET was trying to curtail? If they were trying to limit the amount of money people make, why did they boost the drop rates of Golds/exotics? Every event I do, I get at least one gold, and have yet to fail to get one gold since the update. Today, I killed Shatterer twice, Claw twice, Tequila twice, the maw twice, every chest event was pretty much done twice. At the end of the day, I ended up with 15 Ectos and one exotic worth 3g. I walked away with 10g from my events. 2 weeks ago, I could have done those same events, and probably would have walked away with 2g. Sure, now I can't see myself shooting the giant dragons because of the lag, but who cares? I'm making more money. So uh, keep up the good work ArenaNet?
The idea of the chest change was to increase the quality of rewards while disallowing easy spammage of events for those rewards. Used to be you'd only get a rare or exotic once every week or so if you were lucky which really made it difficult to justify doing them very often. Getting one from every chest now is a major improvement and makes the events worth doing.
Ideally they'll make it 1 chest per event per account per day though.
it's how they handled halloween event chests. you got a very very high chance at an exotic item, but you could only open the chest once per account per day. not sure about the reason for their logical backpedaling
Have their been any noteworty changes to the game other than what was mentioned here? It's one of those games I wish I'd gotten farther than I did so thinking about poking around a bit in it.
When was the last time you played? They added guild events, but they are for the bigger guilds. You need politics level 5 and a healthy amount of people to do them, so low-man guilds are basically screwed.
-I hope they fix guesting soon, the lag is so terrible at all of the chest events, even fire elemental. My shortbow behaves like a longbow.
Uh october I think? maybe september idk for sure. It was before the Lost Shores event I think it was called.
Well yeah they have added quite a few features since then, better rewards for doing dailies, monthlys are easier (this month is a joke), dungeons have some pretty solid rewards and are easy to farm, they nerfed the difficulty of pretty much everything in the game.
I've recently started playing gw2, playing as a asura ranger, enjoying it so far, wasn't expecting the swimming bit, everyone i've met so far have been pretty friendly, and the events that you can just run into are a challenge.

Decided to finally dive back into the game after buying it and playing maybe 2-3 days of it and quitting. I'm currently playing on Isle of Janthir as Lord Gonnergott, I'm currently a level 7 ranger if anybody would like to team up and show me the ropes of everything. I pretty much get the key concepts though.
Doing the daily challenges will help you level faster, you can find them in your Hero Panel > Achievements > Daily/Monthly. Other than that just walk around your noob zone and do the hearts/any events you see.
You are better off selling that on the broker or just npcing it, crafting doesn't really become profitable until you cap it out, which takes about 15-30+ gold to do depending on the craft. And for a new player, thats not gonna happen.

Tried adding you but I think I need your username not character name. I play every now and then so if you want to add me mine is Kiedan.1590. There is a way to play with people who aren't on your server but I'm not sure how it works.
To play with characters on other servers: on the character select screen while you have your character selected, click "guesting"... or maybe "guest" button on the bottom of the screen (right or left side... I'm having a hard time picturing it atm >.>;) then just select the server you want to play on. You can guest on up to 2 different servers per day and the only down side is you can't play WvW with the other server.
Also if you are interesting in WvW, its a great way to level if you find a huge group of people wandering the map taking camps/towers/keeps and such. People refer to them as "karma trains."
So apparently somebody from Hefei, China has been trying to access my account I've already changed my password so hopefully that will fix the issue but what's weird is I haven't played in over a week nor made any enemies :/
I almost bought it at once point after I quit XI. I needed an MMO fix and XIV was ages away. Couldnt justify the 50 euro pricetag though for something I had heard/read/told alot that lasts about a month

I played it for a month lost interest. It felt a lot like WoW to me at least. Plus the idea of grinding form level 1 didn't seem appealing.

Not like the grind was bad, it took like a week to get to max level at launch.
im about to buy, was wondering if anyone is at all active in it. i dont mind some solo but small groups always been fun. wondering with what i gleamed with this "guesting" if picking an server matters much? does anyone use skype much on it or vent outside of big guilds?
how close do the class play to tradition role? ie. ranger being like a fxi/wow ranger, guardian to ffxi or wow paladin? certain amount of free characters?
dont expect it to play like FFXI
you get like 5-6 character slots (?)
classes do feel unique compared to other games, mainly due to GW2's system, and it all depends on the weapons you carry.
IE. Rangers can use Bow, Longbow, Great Sword, Axes
and each weapon has their unique skillset
I don't know how many fans of Guild Wars we have here, but for me it will always have a special place in my heart. Guild Wars was a fast based CORPG (Co-operative RPG) with no subscription fees, and really fun PVP.
Well Guild Wars 2 is on the horizon, and BOY does that game look good.
Following the same pattern of having no subscription fees this game is going to take place 250 years later, on the content of Tyria.
The game is based around the same fast paced combat, with a few small changes ofc.
Here's a cool trailer to get you in the mood for it.
*Note: Everything is real time, Even though it looks like A cutscene, it's gameplay.
