Could've bought it all basically
But with gw2 you actually have to do the dungeons, the pvp, the crafting, the dynamic events to get the components not to mention before all that you need to create/buy the base weapon that comes from the mystic forge that has an pretty low chance of succeeding
I mean I can buy (assuming i'm a rich *** and have *** of gold cuz i spent hundreds of bucks for gems and converted them to gold) mats and some stuff but
but you can't buy:
Skill Points
Karma
badges
world completion
tokens
plus ArenaNet were promoting the game as "not a grindy mmo"
The game isn't grindy, unless you feel the need to grind for cosmetics. The legendary weapons are a DPS loss for pretty much every spec because they're vit/toughness/power, the +1 to all 3 stats and +~12 dmg doesn't make up for the precision/condition damage loss. You do not need a legendary, full exotics is the same(and better), this game is 0% grind for best in slot gear.(unless you're a crit/condition build necro, then have fun grinding gold/karma/dungeons for rares/exotics...)
The only grind is cosmetics/consumables, which is fine, fun, and not required at all.
Ah the good old "the game isn't grindy if you don't pay attention to the parts where it's grindy" cop out.
You can try to dress it up, but it's quite clearly there.
What?
Legendaries are not best in slot for DPS for like any spec in the game, they're PURELY COSMETIC.
There is no grind unless you want there to be a grind, a grind to look cool.
A full set of exotic gear is very easily obtainable for even the most casual of players, if you do some WVW and some events and craft a bit, do some puzzles, do some dungeons, clear some zones, etc(aka by playing the game) you'll slowly get your set. ~20-25g for a full set, which isn't difficult to get.
Legendaries, dungeon gear, PVP gear, etc exist for the most dedicated/hardcore players. The cool part is, they don't gain any stat boosts over non-hardcore players by playing more! They just look cooler.
Grinding can come in more ways then people think it can... while there isn't really an exp grind the same way as in XI map compleation could easily be considered it's own type of grind, same goes for crafting, events, PvP. It might not be in your face but it is there like it or not, The old republic was the same way having you level up alongside the storyline rather then just stop and exp but it only took a second or 3ed character for it to become very apperent.

Legendaries weapons are the best weapons in the game. Considering that nearly everyone can get exotics, legendary weapons have a minuscule but still hold higher stats than their exotic counterparts and they do supposedly look cooler

This is exactly what a grind is... When you did an exp party in XI you were playing the game, when you farmed items to sell for gil you were playing the game, when you did any endgame you were playing the game. The only thing GW has done differently is they have made it far less obvious and a bit more elaborate by way of exploration points to fool you into thinking it's not there.

Legendaries are toughness/vit/power, they are always worse than other weapons for almost every spec unless your spec somehow uses toughness/vit/power gear only. Most builds use precision/condition/healing/etc. Legendaries do not have that, the +1toughness/power/vit and +~12 dmg is far worse than the +90+ condition damage +90+ precision etc from exotics.
Transmuting legendaries to an exotic loses the proc and weapon stats as well, so they're purely looks.
I'd have to agree with Kiaru. From what I've seen on Exotic armor, and what I read about Legendary weapons pretty much being just for looks, there is no must-do grind in this.
The stats on Exotic armor are a little better but the Exotic crafting/loot armor isn't all that hard to get. Getting my Armorsmith to 400 was fairly easy IMO and would have been easier with a crafting XP booster which I didn't use til 375-400. Even then it was overkill as I then went and took Huntsman from 25 to 200 during the same boost.
Its the Dungeon/Karma armor and Legendarys that are there to keep people occupied for the longhaul and are really just for looks.

true they don't have the more offensive stats, but it seems like its starting to grow on the community to have that extra toughness/vit to survive a bit longer in wvw knowing how some classes with good builds can kill people within two seconds.
All in all it really depends on your play style and what you want to do. But I should rephrase my statement to
If you want those stats, its the "best" weapon
Oh no, you actually have to play the entire game to get the most sought after weapons instead of being carried by a linkshell or buying the entire thing???
THE HORROR
Seriously, even with meager support from friends and guildmates, the maximum time it'd take a semi-casual GW2 player to accrue 600k karma and the necessary gold for clovers/gifts/runeshards/obsidian is about 6~7 months, less than it took most relics in FFXI at 75. I've been working on my Sunrise as a complete afterthought, putting no real work in it at all, and I already have almost 2 gifts and half of my required ectoplasm.
Legendaries are there for those who want to do them, they aren't necessity. That extra 2~3 DPS and few points of armor and HP won't be making you a killing machine in PvP compared to someone rocking an also cool looking Molten Greatsword. You'd get 150~200% more stat gain out of simply capturing an Orb of Power in WvW.
Worth noting that, outside of some of the offhand legendaries, Power/Vitality/Toughness in the weapon slot is sub-optimal. You may actually be losing effectiveness over time if you don't transmute the legendary and thus lose the small stat bonus.
If you expected any different from prestige armor and weapon skin grinds in Guild Wars, then you were horribly misinformed prior to purchase. Guild Wars 1 was even worse, full sets of prestige armor and prestige weapons costing far more in time and resources than a legendary will. They're referred to as prestige for a reason, and if you don't like the grind, no one's stopping you from going for a more readily attainable set of skins.
Need some help guys. Sooo I was thinking of start up a Warrior this weekend and was wondering if anyone could give me quick info on a craft I can level quickly (and semi cheap) with a new character to get it to maybe 20 from the start. I have probably 5 gold and some change and like 4 crafting boosters. Not looking to take a craft up to 400 right away. I just want to get a quick early jump on the leveling. Thanks in advance!
That would be foolish.
You'd have to take every craft to like 100ish or max 1-2.
I took two to 100-150 and only got level 8.(with boosters)
EXP Scales via leveling be it kills, resurrection or crafting. It's pointless to blow money crafting to speed level when it would be more beneficial to grind through the painful early levels then burn out the end levels.
I don't know how many fans of Guild Wars we have here, but for me it will always have a special place in my heart. Guild Wars was a fast based CORPG (Co-operative RPG) with no subscription fees, and really fun PVP.
Well Guild Wars 2 is on the horizon, and BOY does that game look good.
Following the same pattern of having no subscription fees this game is going to take place 250 years later, on the content of Tyria.
The game is based around the same fast paced combat, with a few small changes ofc.
Here's a cool trailer to get you in the mood for it.
*Note: Everything is real time, Even though it looks like A cutscene, it's gameplay.
