It doesn't seem like any of the racial skills are worth using over the regular ones you get from your profession, they're just for fun. The only major difference between each race is the personal stories.
All in all, how does GW2 look so far in terms of content and gameplay? What types of events are there to do as you level aside from quests and instances? And does it require a substantial amount of dedication to get much accomplished, or does the game follow along the lines of GW1 in terms of being able to just pick it up and play?
More importantly, how does the PVP environment hold up so far? Fairly balanced, or does one class or build tend to dominate the rest?
I've been tempted to it up once they begin selling digital copies again, but since most of the friends I had been planning on playing it with seem to be getting bogged down with school (as am I, to a lesser degree), they doubt they'll have time to really get involved in the game or that it'll be worth the money.
So has anyone else noticed that the music in Divinity Reach sounds alot like some of the music in star wars episode 2/3... the one that plays alot of times when Anikin and Padme are together.

Solo kill classes like thief have a bit of trouble, and guardian is limited but the others are all rather good because mass AoE in PvP.
Leveling has quest and instances but also random world events much like rift has. Also PvP works for leveling seeing as it scales you up to max level so you can PvP even at lvl 1.
Content wise I enjoy it but I also played GW1 so I have a lot of interest in the story. Also I do enjoy the personalization aspect of the story.

Aye, the personal storyline was one of the main appeals to me when it was first announced. Haven't heard much about how it works in practice, but the concept seemed like it would make leveling multiple characters enjoyable at least.
As for PVP, did it pretty much become just an AoE spam then, or is that just an extra little boost to clear out groups of enemies trying to complete an objective? (For that matter, are there even varying objectives in battlegrounds, or is it a straight-up deathmatch?)

WvW is kinda just an AoE spam-fest right now with players traveling around in giant groups. I think once everyone levels up a bit, gets settled, and figures out the squad(?) system, people will start rolling out in smaller, more efficient groups instead.
There actually isn't a deathmatch mode yet in the structured PvP, right now the only game type is capture the flag. You get points for kills, but it's a lot more beneficial (and you get more glory points) if you try to focus on capturing points.

Decided to buy GW2 since DayZ is unplayable without hacks, due to being killed while unarmed 3 times, and being killed by hackers 3 times, in the last 4 hours. Got nothing done.
To add on to the fun, my keyboard will often enter two "e"s instead of one, so when I tried to link my CD key to a GW2 account I just created, it came out to mozzy4evere@gmail.com, instead of mozzy4ever@gmail.com
Now I have to wait for their support staff to get back to me... Fun day.
Volk what kind of weapon / build are you running on Thief?
daggers/pistols
or
pistols/short bow
just did this
edit:
What i mean that thieves can aoe, its with the use of the short bow.
Usually in group events or pvp when you see large zergs just poking each other across a bridge for example.
You can use your "Choking Gas" shot to put down the combo field
then fire your "Cluster Bomb" shot for the combo finisher.
Now the cluster bomb, you can either let it land to make an explosion or you can detonate it when its in the air to make an airburst effect.
The trick is to to detonate this ability right before it hits the ground. So your cluster bomb basically explodes are character height which explodes, dealing at least 3 hits to everyone in the area and adds a bleed effect. Its highly useful in situations like that and large group events in pve where you don't necessarily want to be in melee.
Ughhh, didn't bring my laptop with me to the office today ; ;
"I'll only be there 4 hours, I wont need it."
It's been an hour and I'm wanting to play GW2 D:
Also I love the event aspect, it was one of the things I absolutely loved about rift and I'm glad to see it's kinda becoming the norm for games now. Had a fun one in the 35-45 highlands against some centaurs. Vendor in the adjacent region sold some pretty sweet 43 weps ^^
I don't know how many fans of Guild Wars we have here, but for me it will always have a special place in my heart. Guild Wars was a fast based CORPG (Co-operative RPG) with no subscription fees, and really fun PVP.
Well Guild Wars 2 is on the horizon, and BOY does that game look good.
Following the same pattern of having no subscription fees this game is going to take place 250 years later, on the content of Tyria.
The game is based around the same fast paced combat, with a few small changes ofc.
Here's a cool trailer to get you in the mood for it.
*Note: Everything is real time, Even though it looks like A cutscene, it's gameplay.
