It's all because people abuse it. Religion tries to teach betterment, it just fails at it for the most part
You're apologizing away..
A LOT of atrocities..

I'm neither for or against religion, I'm just saying that the argument between science and religion are never going to end until one of the following things happen:
- God descends from the heavens and proves his existence
- Scientists prove religion is a hoax to EVERY believer
- One side kills everyone on the other side

You're completely neglecting the message of religion though,
You shall not murder
You shall not steal
You shall not make for yourself an idol
Honor your father and mother
You shall not commit adultery
How are any of these messages a negative thing?
It's not religion that's at fault, it's people
People abuse it and make it a bad thing

"Thou shalt not murder... unless thou are gay.... Unless thou are a disobedient teenage... Unless thou are a nonvirgin unmarried girl... unless thou work on the sabbath....."
That is what the commandment should really say... Because the bible goes over how god wants these kind of people to be killed... "Takin to the center of town and stoned to death"... That word death, does mean to kill.. Like dead right?

And we've fixed that, haven't we?
You're expecting perfection in religion, nothing human is perfect
There will always be flaws in our beliefs, even without religion

Whens the last time you heard that some guy knifed some chick and raped her because of Jesus?
All the bad people will continue being bad, it's just the god fearing people will no longer have a reason to be good

Atheists don't murder in the name of Atheism.
Atheists use words.
Theists use assault rifles, bombs, and airplanes.

There's also the matter of free will, religion exists because people choose to believe. Really, alcohol is very similar to religion in that aspect. Alcohol (For consumption purposes, NOT medical) is responsible for countless atrocities, but still exists in society. Unlike religion though, there really is no up side to the story, but people like it. Even though it's nothing but a hindrance, alcohol for consumption still exists because people want it to, and for the same reason religion exists. So I wouldn't be arguing about abolishing religion until you're ready to quit every other vice in your life: smoking, sex for any other purpose than procreation, ect.

How can there be flaws in your beliefs, if your beliefs are derived from a super intelligent being that does everything perfectly?

NEVER have I said that, I suggest you stop putting words in other peoples mouths
I'm simply stating that religion is not at fault for that, people are
You can't blame god for the sins of men

I love how you take that data, and ignore the first chart in the same article that shows the religious makeup of the country, which basically matches those numbers. So basically, religion has *gasp* no effect!!!

Misinterpretation, if something imperfect acts, even based on something that is perfect, there will be flaws in the results.
Don't blame religion for your problems, blame people

No. It definitely said that the amount of secular people in America was 16%.
The amount who were in prison was .4%...
What the hell are you talking about?
California Proposition 8 (ban on gay marriage) has been struck down in federal district court as a violation of the US Constitution's Equal Protection clause.
This is the first time a state ban on gay marriage has been challenged in federal court. It is worth noting that the judge is a Republican and was appointed by Reagan.
It will now go to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which is also in San Francisco. If the circuit court rules for gay marriage, it will also become legal in Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Guam, and the Mariana Islands.
Regardless of the 9th Circuit's ruling, it will be appealed to the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS). If the 9th Circuit rules for gay marriage, SCOTUS must hear the case because of the fracture along state lines.
If the 9th circuit upholds the ban on gay marriage, SCOTUS can simply refuse to hear the case, effectively upholding the ban. Or they can agree to hear the case and make their own ruling, which will then apply to every state in the union.
