Oh I know, but what Socrates does mean is that you have to communicate when you are in champion select. It makes sense really. If you are first pick/second pick for example, and you want top / mid, do you just go and lock in a top / mid lane champ? You have to agree, you're begging to be countered against in Ranked matches if you do that...
And that's what I am worried about. I don't want to lose because some first picker guy wants to lane somewhere, locks in a champ, and does atrocious. It's not very fair. :/
I have no prob if someone wants to top or mid if they are first pick, but please use the trade / swap champions function...
I don't want them to lock in without discussion and using the "Pick Order matters Riot said so" excuse. You know?
EDIT: Oh and what communication means to me is talking about the role that you want to play, and if you can swap champions with someone to avoid getting counterpicked, if you should be swapping. It increases your rate of success of winning your game after all. Didn't answer that before lol
You do have a point and it makes sense, regarding counters.
However, in reality, counter means nothing in the overwhelmingly huge part of ranked (it only really matters when there is an actual matchup anyway). You would have to either pick a complete 7/9-3/1 matchup to be countered under the level of Platinum. And even then, I'm pretty sure we can go as high as Diamond III and still fail to see this due to player's skill mattering depending on champions. So the counter point in reality is non existent for the average player (Caitlyn is being extensively discussed lately regarding this point).
Whenever you play ranked, you take the risk that the other 4 are ***. This is why this game isn't about "others making you lose", but yourself not being able to win. The mentality and vision should be reversed.
If you cannot carry your team during a match, you simply didn't deserve to win. Through win or loss. Now, if you just have fun playing and that's it, then win or loss shouldn't matter. Either way, you are the key, not others.
This guy locked Maokai mid, nobody said anything even after he did absolute ***. I wasn't able to carry with Xin, that's my fault we lost, not his. That's how you should see it, not "this guy made us lose with top Karma".
If you manage to see it that way, you'll enjoy ranked and start getting better because then you can focus on what you do and improve, and only this.
Ranked is really all about abusing this small pool of broken champs and collecting free LPs. Or being a good player/mastering a specific champion. Either way, the whole point is to make "counters" non existent in practice, either with an OP champ, or by outplaying people. That's why there is no troll pick, only baddies.
