I'm not sure why everyone is thinking they need to buy a new 1k+ system to play this game really.... here are my pc specs and I can play the beta just fine.
Keep in mind my laptop is 3 years old :P

Windows Vista Home Prem SP 2
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 2.0 Ghz
GPU: Nvidia 8600m GT
memory: 2 GB ram
HDD: 180GB

I scored roughly 800 on the benchmark test and I have had no problems yet with playing the beta.

One thing that I do not see being recommended is 2 separate HD's. 1 for the OS and installed software, and 1 for storage.
This one simple step can save you lots of future headaches, and much quicker defrags.

A great configuration would be a primary HD being a SSD or a WD raptor for a main drive, then a huge clunker for a secondary data drive, where all your music, vids, pics, porn, will be kept separately.

Also, if you intend on running any of these games on high resolutions, I would say try and go for a SLI or crossfire configuration. SLI/Xfire work best when they enter the higher resolutions, since they handle either every other frame, or the frame is split in half for each GPU.

Anyways, have fun building your system! :D

Agreed. AMD tends to be what you pay for.

Well I'm currently @ 4890 with this build, I've been tempted to jump in the Nvidia boat a few times recently because ATI are slow as hell to release fixes.

Probably just going to chuck another 4890 in and run Crossfire though.

Sorry to quote ya Flion, but a tech mentioned that Nvidia is on the way out, so I was told, but don't quote me.. I have never had any issues with ATI personally..

I stayed within Budget, just get yourself a 1/2 decent MB, you won't need a supra-fast ultra DVD writer/rom a nice one with good performance should do the trick, and buy a 1 or 2 gig vid card + 2-3 gig cpu ram. Also 300 + gig HD is nice to have too. IDK how big FFXIIV is gonna be...so =/

Literally, right after reading that post I laughed since it is pretty much true.

My question is, what settings are you playing the beta on?
My second question is, was 800 on high or low settings for the benchmark?

I'm also going to make the assumption that you haven't been in combat with tons of people in the same area as you with special effects flying out left and right since the beta has limited people in it.

Everything I've heard about the beta is it's 55 people camping all over each other to claim+kill 8 EP-DC mobs. Basically, it's Cape Terrigan HD.

Yah, with the character resets and the rest of the world locked out, all there is to do is kill enemies over and over, and this is why the call it a Test. You're not playing the game itself, just testing isolated (to the best of their ability with all the newfag lol i iz a testur) mechanics.

Progression Speed, and the balance issues that are created with such a flexible system as the Armory seem almost insurmountable. It's nothing short of a miracle if FFXIV actually makes that Sept. 22nd launch day (CE) and is a playable game, lol.

All MMOs released usually contain numerous amounts of bugs and such, after playing the beta, it seems that XIV won't be any different. I want to play XIV soon as possible, but to be honest, I would rather have it delayed a month or two to make it really polished and smooth.

Speaking of building computers for FFXIV and future gaming. I was just throwing one together myself, was wondering if anyone had any input on the following specs;

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/saved/1CKN35

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-930 2.80 GHz 8M Intel Smart Cache LGA1366

Cooling Fan: Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan (Enhanced Cooling Performance + Extreme Silent at 20dBA)

Don't waste your time with the gtx 465. Buy 2 GTX 460 1GB instead. Lower power draw and heat, and just as fast and some cases faster than the 465.

Like my post above, I think you should use 2 HD's instead of just one. One for OS and installed software, the other for data.

Raptor or SSD for a primary, and a huge drive for a secondary drive.

Listen to this, or face agony and pain for the next three hardware generations.

QFT

Get a full case or the GPU might not fit well...plus the issue with tons of wires all over the place in such a confined area.

I haven't had a chance to run the benchmark, but from the sounds of things it is more intensive on the CPU than it is on the GPU yes?

I have found that for some reason there is more focus on the CPU in the low settings and more focus on the GPU in the high settings, but I don't do extensive tests so just my findings. It is probably just because the GPU capacity is easily maxed out on a high-end GPU with decent head-room so the CPU makes a huge difference. On the other hand, on the high settings it is harder to max out the GPU so no matter how good your CPU is, you are going to get a crappy score if the GPU cannot handle the graphics.

Just my two cents.
