Error - POL -1160 Help Plz

I've been trying to get past POL's Checking viewer version for the past 2 days. At first i thought it might be the servers being busy or something so i waited. The next morning figured everything would be fine so i tried to get on and got the error again. Then tried resetting my router and modem, no success. After a while of fiddling with cords and other thing to make sure it wasnt any thing on my end.

So I called square enix and got on the phone with a tech support person who asked me to do everything I just did again so i did, then he askes me to try to forward the ports on my router so i tried that, no dice. Then i was asked to disconnect my router and plug my modem right in to my xbox so i do that still no success. Then they tracked my IP through the Checking viewer version, and i was told that all 12 steps checked out fine and when they try and send the some info back after the check (I assume its ok to log into POL) the connection just "drops off". I'm told to call my ISP and tell them to refresh my network or something along those lines and to tell them that there are drop off in relation to my IP.

So i call my ISP they tell me that they have know idea wtf SE is talking about. ok so i call SE back and tell them all this again because its a new person this time and they basically tell me that there is nothing they can do
(apparently they ran out of tips off of google or something)
and suggested that maybe re-formating my xbox hd would do the trick, i knew that it wouldnt help even a little but i did it anyway lossing 3 years of gamesaves (YAY!!!) and it still wouldnt work. At this point i was pretty pissed and hung up got on COD MW2 to blow off some steam.
(i also have the game on my computer and i get the same error on there thats how i knew reformatting wouldnt work)

So all in all i learnt its not my router, my game files, my xbox or pc, and its not ports.

It could still be my modem, something to do with my ISP, or Something to do with SE.

Has anyone else had this problem lately, all ive found on various forums is years old and not very helpful.

I live in Paisley, Ontario, Canada if that helps and My gametag is Gamesage Chad99.

Exactly but how can the update server be down when i had already done the updates like a week and a 1/2 ago and every one of my friends is on and they got no update and on top of that why would not SE just say that the servers were down.

not trying to be rude it just really doesnt make much sense to me. thank you for the input tho

I have it completely updated, Infact I was just on a few hours ago, I'm unable to log on now, getting same error.

I was having problems downloading the update from the last version update as well, but I just went and manually downloaded the update put on the web by an anonymous user, installed the files to their ROM folders, then updated and got the last 2 files that only SE can send (or so I'm told).

And for the record, I do not remember the name of the site I got these files off of.

i was to lazy to read if u did. but maybe Reinstall FFXI?

hey i know how to fix this.
my POl did the same and all i had to do was turn my firewall off, i set it to when system restarts turn back on because otherwise the timer will occasionally cut u out of FF.
Just remember to turn the firewall back on when ur not online, ***can really *** it up.

Nope Im using Bruce Telecom and Im on xbox and even when i have my modem plugged in directly i still get the error. so it cant really be a firewall error. thanks tho

I had the exact same problem some time ago and I managed to fix it by setting my ps3 to DMZ mode (host) in your router config. you can do this by taking the local ip that your xbox is using and input this in your router's dmz settings. should work on xbox too.

Ok maintenance is over and i still cant connect through POL. I tried the DMZ thing and that didnt do anything.

Anyone else still got problems?

I called SE Tech Support and was told that i had 100% loss in packets when he pinged my ip and he told me to tell my ISP to Trace RT, and they should be able to tell me what the problem is.

I dont really know what any of that means but i guess i have to wait till tomorrow because its canada and it a holiday, he also suggested i try a friends house.(yah ill just go move in with a friend for a couple months so i can play ffxi.)

Having some problems here too, Error POL-0019. Can't update and haven't been able to do so all day, annoying >;/
