Old PS1/PS2 RPG Game Recommendations

I think all (both Suikoden and SMT), except the one's on the DS, are Turn-Based RPGs.
The one's on the DS are just like FFT.

Saga Frontier - MUST
Suikoden - MUST only if your going to buy the rest of the games in the serires.
Final Fantasy Tactics - MUST

So, not marching in place on a board, but standing in a row of 3-4 attacking in turns? I might have to try these games.

Dragon warrior 7, its a very long game.

Final Fantasy Chronicles (Chrono Trigger + FFIV for the PS)
Chrono Cross

I loved these and recommend them with all the mainstream rpgs (Xenogears,FFseries, Suikoden, wild arms etc)

I also liked the "Arc the lad" series. For Ps1 and Ps2

Not too sure about 2 & 3 though...

Grit your teeth and bare the brute force of 2 (it's not bad but it's *** hard) for the story and enjoy the *** out of 3. I love these series and they need to add #4 still...

I liked them all. 2 had a really screwed up lvling/battle system IIRC.

Heard the original writer/author of the Xenosaga series quit after 1, that's why I'm not sure if I want to ruin my experience with the series.

But I will try soon!

They say there'll be no 4. But Japan does have a 1 & 2 DS remake.

Behind FF7, FF8, FF9, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Lost Odyssey, I think Legend of Dragoon is my favorite RPG.

ACE COMBAT 4, 5, and 0 BELONG IN ALL GENRES.

Not going to happen, unfortunately. But the story may breathe new life with 'Xenoblade' not sure if that will be the completed name or not, but it's what is being used right now.

Someday we will have a series that tells the story from beginning to end, as of right now we just have to attempts at it in Xenogears and Xenosaga 1,2 and 3.

Beyond the Beyond, and Final Fantasy I-XII. Skip X-2, thats not 12 that ff10 part 2, its about singing and just all around crap. FFtatics, Arc the lad, Romance of the 3 kingdoms 4-9 i think. UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM and other stuff.

Actually the creators both worked on the first and second games together (husband and wife duo) but one of them (not sure which) had a nervous breakdown after Namco told them to wrap up the series in the third game. It was originally supposed to be a 6 game series so it caused them a lot of stress to put 4 games into one because they had to alter their original story line that they had worked on for YEARS. They did an excellent job with the games but they just didn't sell well for some reason. A lot of people were turned off by Episode 2 because of how difficult it was.

And they say there will be no more but I'm still holding out hope for another installment. I'm not holding my breath but the thought is always in the back of my mind and they left the ending in three open for another game.

Right, but what I meant is we wouldn't get an Ep.4, because 3 essentially ended the story. We may get a whole new series (which Xenoblade may turn into, I don't know if they have announced that yet), but I don't see how they could add in another game to the Xenosaga series.

But man was Ep.3 freaking awesome.

BTW, you don't PLAY Xenosaga, you WATCH Xenosaga.

Also if you're looking for a completed storyline, look up the book behind what was supposed to be the original series (Xenogears series) Xenogears Perfect Works.

Although if you did have a problem with CGs in games I'd just assume you weren't much of a story driven RPG fan.

I am, I loved Xenosaga. It was just an old joke among people who played it that "You don't play Xenosaga, you watch Xenosaga."

Tales of the abyss - PS2, imo all of the tales games are pretty great

rogue galaxy - PS2, was more of an action/adventure thing but had rpg elements

AR tenelico1/2 - PS2, lots of fun

and wtf only ONE person mentioned Dragon quest 8?!

If it's mentioned already, theres no sense in mentioning it again lol, but I give my thumbs up to that game too, it is another very long game though, I never did beat the dragon(black dragon~) at the end of the game though ; ;
