"One hit wonder" games you wish spawned a series

Simple topic. Fire off a game or two that was just a single title that you have always wished would have become a franchise.
I'll start. The most obvious one that many people will likely repeat is Legend of Dragoon. However, one that I liked even more and will always hold out hope for is Skies of Arcadia.
For anyone that doesn't know, Skies is a one hit wonder RPG from the Dreamcast that sports a sky pirate theme and had some nice battle mechanics that involved changing your group's weapon element with Moonstones. It also featured epic sky pirate airship battles that were a lot of fun and a system of recruiting people to live in your town, plying their particular trade to help in the town's growth. This recruitment also served as a way to build up a big attack that the crewmen would join in on, attacking the enemy or healing and/or buffing your party.
Skies received an updated release for the GameCube, but no sequel ever happened, much to many fans' disappointment. One fan even wrote a letter to Sega about the game has achieved cult status. The fan actually received a replay directly from Sega's president with his excuse as to why they never made a sequel. Odd that Skies was big with fans long before the reasons in his reply even existed.

Quote: Thank you for taking the time to write to us. Unfortunately, there are currently no plans to release a sequel for Eternal Arcadia (Japanese name for Skies of Arcadia). To be honest, I’m not sure if we even deserve to be in the games business.
Our reputation has taken quite a dive in recent years. We’re still reeling from the repercussions of releasing the 15th Anniversary Sonic the Hedgehog game (commonly known as Sonic 2006). That is forever a mark on our formerly good name.
As a publisher, we can not seem to get our act in order. A release in the United States known as Aliens: Colonial Marines was completely botched by its developer Gearbox and was critically panned. We did absolutely nothing in response. We were just taken advantage of.
Even if we did release an Eternal Arcadia sequel, we can not ensure that the quality would be to your liking. The long-awaited sequel to NiGHTS was also met with negative reviews. How many more people can we afford to let down? I say, none.
There is a reason we are not making Valkyria of the Battlefield 4 (Japanese name for Valkyria Chronicles), we would just mess it up. I was honestly surprised that we could still make a new series that was actually good. Today, I still use this series as justification for keeping our games division alive which is why I can not afford a series decline like Sonic the Hedgehog.
We are running on nostalgia at this point. Sonic Generations used up all the nostalgia we could possibly wring out of the Sonic series and now we are creatively bankrupt. The Sonic & Sega Racing series uses a similar tactic by using characters like Vyse and Alex Kidd to foster nostalgic thoughts.
Please do not get your hopes up for an Eternal Arcadia sequel. Just play the Valkyria of the Battlefield series as Vyse appears in it as a playable character. It may not be the same, but at least you will be playing a good game.
Sincerely,
Satomi Hajime

Not exactly a one hit wonder because a sequel exists, but I'd love to see an OFFICIAL translation and release of Mother 3 stateside/EUside if the demand is there.
Also, fk yeah Legend of Dragoon. That game needs an HD remix more than FF7 does.

Skies of Arcadia is a amazing game. I still own the game for the DC. Airship battles with the Delphinus was a blast. DC > GC
Battle Moon Wars - Super Robot Wars with Type-Moon characters.
Gemfire - Better AI, CPU were dumb as bricks.

It wasn't really a one hit wonder, but it had many elements (including some lore) which made it a solid and interesting recent game and would have deserved a continuation: Amalur

Me too! That game had me ROTF the whole way through!
"I am the Milkman."
Also Lost Odyssey. Nearly a perfect game in every way.

Thousand Arms would probably be my pick. It was an anime styled rpg in which you would have 1 character on the front line as your main offense, with 2 supporting characters you could rely on to use magic and items (you could also switch your front line fighter, but they would leave the battle).
What really made this game unique was it's ability/spell progression, in which it was practically it's own game itself as it was based on a dating sim with the heroines of the story. You, as a spirit blacksmith, would reforge your parties weapons to gain new spells and abilities, and the tiers of those would be based on which girl you had helping you infuse spirits into the weapons and their affection lvls for the main character.
Here in the west we don't get to see too many dating sim games in general, so for the time this game was made and introduced in America it was like we got a new rpg but with an awesome bonus added in. As an avid anime lover, this game always had a special place for me (plus i'm a sucker for a love story lol).

Crystalis, River City Ransom, Actraiser, and actually finish the Mega Man Legends series.
Oh, and while we're at it, re-release the Final Fantasy Legend games for post-1990 platforms, please

There is English translation for the remake of Final Fantasy Legend games. Can get the translation patches from romhacking.net Annoys the ***out of me when they change the names of game. These are SaGa series not even related to FF.
Makai Toushi SaGa(WonderSwan Color) - Final Fantasy Legend
SaGa 2 Hihou Densetsu Goddess of Destiny(Nintendo DS) - Final Fantasy Legend II
SaGa 3 Rulers of Time and Space Shadow or Light(Nintendo DS) - Final Fantasy Legend III
WonderSwan Color Emulator - Oswan
Best news of April. Dragon Force II English translation is complete after over 8 years.

A true Chrono Trigger sequel.
They'd just *** up a CT sequel at this point; CC was as good as you're getting.
Edit: Actraiser 2 wasn't as good as the first one, but it was still a decent game.

Well, yeah. I just honestly had no idea it existed, and it assumed it didn't - like, to the point I didn't even bother looking, because I assumed Enix was dumb and didn't make one. A mythical, metaphorical unicorn.
Though, wings would make it a pegasus anyway

I know Transistor is out there as a new offering from the same folks, but I'd like to see a direct sequel with lore expansion to Bastion.
I really love that game and its style, and would love to see more done with it.
