I'll bet everyone 3 beers and a whiskey that Wendy Davis loses next week.

I'm not willing to take that bet. [+] because deep down, I know you're right with your prediction. Not a fan of Abbott, but it looks like we're in for more of the same.
You are correct in more of the same.

However, I would shutter to think what would happen if Davis were to be elected. Social issues aside, she doesn't know what she is talking about and all she does is go attack dog mode on the social issues. Not exactly a good leader, especially in a state that doesn't fully agree with her.

Mmmm...For the sake of not turning this into a Texas thread, I'll just shut up about Abbott and his seedy base. I think we've already gone in circles about both enough.

hate abbot and davis equally. both are slimy~ however abbot seems to be the lesser evil :/

Except in the last two Presidential elections, Democrats overwhelmingly won swing voters, so I have no idea where you get the idea that they are losing those votes.
Contradiction much?

Besides Nik's evidence that you are full of ***too, what you said is proof enough that you are talking out of your *** yet again.

You are as bad as Jet in making broad, incorrect, unsubstantiated statements.

Might as well turn this into a Texas politics thread, these are Midterm Elections thread.

Abbot isn't known for being honest or caring (he is a politician), at least he stands by his principles and doesn't *** about not getting his way. Davis does that all the time, why do you think she is making national headlines? It's because of her constant bitching that she didn't get her way.

Vic is making broad statements just like Jet. I'm sure that neither one of them would know it either.

I can't wait for them to disagree with each other. A lot of "nuh uhs!" and "no u" will be flying, along with insults galore and other meaningless dribble.

It would be like watching two apes flinging ***at each other. Without the apes eating the ***afterwards (I hope).

And this is why the Democrats are losing the swing voters. You just painted yourself as a extreme liberal by refusing to acknowledge that the other side might have valid points while simultaneously demonizing them as the scourge of humanity. This is simply not true, the Republican platform has valid points just as the the Democrat platform does. Both sides need to be acknowledged and a compromise needs to be worked that attempts to address as much as possible. By going with an extreme interpretation of your favorite political party you have alienated yourself from anyone not as devoted to the faith as yourself. It's the same tragic mistake the Republicans made after Clinton when they decided everyone not Republican was a socialist commie terrorist supporting traitor who wanted to steal hard earned money and give it to those lazy bums. The more extreme you paint yourself, the more you demonize the opposition, the worse you look in the eyes of anyone who isn't part of your particular political religion.

That's the analysis of people like Nate Silver, not mine. Also, I didn't express a political view, so I didn't paint myself as anything. This is the kind of thinking that is VERY closed-minded.

Quote:
Take immigration for example. According to you they want to "kick Mexicans out of the country" which is untrue. Their particular point is they don't want tax dollars, which mostly come from middle class working americans, to be spent supporting those who immigrated illegally. They also view illegal immigrants with suspicion as they are more likely to commit crimes (this is true for all poor demographics). The instant reaction is to "build a fence / deport / blah blah" which is extremely impractical but appeals to people's emotions and thus is a tool for politicians. The fear and suspicion doesn't remove the fact that their concerns are valid and should be addressed. This is why I've always been in favor of immigration reform, removing the colossal amounts of expensive bureaucratic procedures while simultaneously getting a bit harsher on border crossers. Those already in the country should go through a quick process of registration and attaining citizenship so they at least get on the books. Anyhow it's a complex issue, especially as the democrats as seeing it a source of new voters and are pandering to that crowd with the ultimately goal of taking seats from the Republicans in the southern states. The Republicans seeing that power play are blocking any attempt at the Democrats acquiring new majority's via instant citizenship.

And the stop and ID laws in places like AZ aren't discriminatory in nature? Regardless, I said that is the perception, which is absolutely true.

Quote:
Anyhow virtually every issue not only has two sides with equally important points, they also have deeper political power implications and tertiary effects. Politics is a grand game of chess that is often invisible to the population at large.

Absolutely false. Not every issue has 2 sides, some have many, some have only 1. The country as a whole will move forward when we stop pretending that everyone's feels are equally valid regardless of fact or implication.

Ever looked at exit polls KN? Try it someday. The last election is the only evidence we have right now, the one where Obama destroyed Mittens and the Dems won over a million more votes than the GOP in Congress. Saevel is talking as if he already knows how people are going to vote in 2014, but in reality, he only knows how he is going to vote. And losing one vote is not enough to say Dems are losing swing voters. Again, better luck next time.

No one needs to be told what swing voters are. I'm still interested in the "highly likely to win the WH in 2016" bit. If its such a sure thing, mind telling us who exactly is going to be the next President?

If the D candidate isn't a minority or a woman a Republican will win hands down. Its hilarious people think Obama won the Presidency for any reason other than he is black.

Its delusional to think Obama won on merit.

http://www.ropercenter.uconn.edu/elections/how_groups_voted/voted_08.html

The welfare state voted for their messiah simple as that. It is ordinary Americans fault he won however. When only 130mil people vote its just plain sad. To make matters worse only 125mil voted in 2012.

When Obama is off the ticket blacks no longer feel the need to vote it was obvious in 2010 it will be even more so this election.

The democrats stand no chance in 2016 without a race card to play.

I supported Ron Paul at one point, I very much like his libertarian ideals, but his statements about women's reproductive health really soured it for me. I can get over the muted racism, obviously he would be allowed to enact any repressive legislation on a national level, but for an OB-GYN to recite Victorian era ideas about reproduction and womens' issues... I had hope for Rand, too, but he's flip-flopped so hard on foreign aid and entitlement programs, I swear he hired Romney's PR guy.

I can agree with not on merit, but to say it's because of race is being dishonest and quite frankly racist, along with the rest of your assertions, so no surprise there.

The 2010 results can be attributed to the ~82.5m turnout, compared to an 81m in 2006 which had a different result than your assertion, and again had no "blacks."

Stop being such a bigot, it's obvious.

Their isolationist stance in regards to foreign affairs was more than enough for me, I didn't even have to get into the other *** up policies. Granted I don't like the alternatives either, but how many politicians are anti-fascist and anti corporatism? and pro helping the poor, yeah it is basically non-existent.

In case you haven't heard women are turning on democrats lately.

I did a few quick searches to see if I could find any basis for your statement and found a couple of polls that indicate women view Republicans more favorably now than in the past, but the questions are really ambiguous and the same women say that they still would vote Democrat.

So, I looked at exit poll results for the last several elections. (still subjective, obviously)

2012 presidential went 55/44 Obama, 2010 midterms total women voters went Republican while percentage of votes cast went Democrat, 2008 presidential was 56/43 Obama. In the last 3 election cycles, women sided with Democrats a pretty constant rate. In fact, the only place that Republicans have a significant advantage with women voters are age 60+ white college graduates that make over 100k.

In any case, what I found is pretty inconclusive, enough to cast doubt on any political analysis, and most definitely doesn't support your claim.
