Let's be real for a second here. I think "Cidney" is a good idea. Why? Because she is a female placed in a male-dominated field; automotive mechanics. Now, the skimpy clothes doesn't say much for that particular female but we have to remember that these games are marketed towards males and the cast is entirely male. It's a small step for women in video games, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Also, titties. There, I said it.

In a story driven game a female character that is treated like a real person instead of eye candy and has a real personality and backstory will always be better than some fan service airhead/super upbeat character (*** you Vanille).

Sure, they can wear skimpy clothing too but we all know why they chose it.

Yeah pretty much. It's final fantasy and it's the gaming industry so of course She's got a lot of skin.

Even looking at a game like bayonette 1/2 where a strong female lead is everything; She's still highly sexualized even fully clothed. We have a long way to go as a society but stuff like this appearing is definitely small steps forward. No matter what we can't ignore the fact the market is hugely dominated by male gamers and sex sells.

I just wish we could have a great character action game with great personality and storytelling without being forced to pander to be successful, you know? Pandering to such base impulses just cheapens the production values and vision at that point. : /
Personally, I'm quite fond of Terra Branford, though I usually like to play as a female character. Kinda disturbing doing so in an MMO though... I once got asked to cyber.

1. SE spent the last 10 years making this game and then starting over 3 years ago to make it all over again.
2. They need the money to make up for all that work.
