Being a musician doesn't mean you can't be intelligent, have good enough culture for the job and the right ideas.

Far more worthy causes to vilify than the music industry. Quite frankly am going to call *** on this, some would still exist.
edit: I'm basing this on the fact that non-profit entertainment companies exist.

Her first album is sort of the crux of my argument, as it was largely not written by her, or at least quite guided by industry professionals. Very manufactured.
She's since become a bit better in that regard.
*shrug* You prefer unsigned artists with no record company to report to?
Or you mean you prefer songwriters to singers?
From the way I see it, he seems to have an issue with manufactured pop star for the sole purpose of making money.
I'm a musician. Not a very good one. Not a professional one. But I'm friends with many from the entire spectrum of "giving music lessons on the side" to "performs professional with ensembles" to "tours the world for screaming audiences".
I can appreciate the pop industry as a vessel to make money...for musicians.
But musicians and artists getting used solely for the purpose of making money for others is infinitely frustrating to me.

Other way around. She started manufactured pop-punk and got away from it to a more indie pop-rock image she desired.
Actually, in that way, I kind of respect her. It's more that manufactured image and start I hold in low esteem.

No, all signed music isn't manufactured. A lot of it is.
But not all of it.

Honestly it's a true potential of the internet that is being inhibited and a lot of people ignore (or know too well) about it, that it makes the freedom of information near a true possibility, and that we could improve society as a whole by making a lot of things free, but that would hurt the pockets of a lot of very wealthy people, so they stifle it.
(don't get me wrong, there's other persons that benefit too, but I don't want to get into a long debate about that) but the idea that the music industry is needed today is very half hazard at best.
Hell dial up almost killed them.

Paul McCartney, one of the most -- if not the most, in many ways -- celebrated human beings alive, has to pay royalties every time he plays some of the biggest songs he's ever written.
The concept of intellectual property being owned by someone who didn't think it up (or their subsequent estate) is a plague upon creativity.

Read her wiki. By her own words she doesn't care for her first album as much. :p

I'd argue that things like popcorn time are examples, but I can see why they don't fit the traditional mold. I'll retract the statement for now, as I don't feel like doing further research.

Eh, I see it in this light. If you're singing something that someone else wrote and scored, you're a performer not an artist. Doesn't mean it isn't a catchy tune or you can't enjoy it, but it was molded to sell.
I just find that most of those types of songs just lack that something for me to connect to beyond "That sounded catchy" and then forget about it a month later. To toss in the cheese factor, those bands that put a little bit of their soul and emotion into what they are writing give you that something that was previously missing. It's their song, not their product to sell.
It's why I feel that a lot of older music has been around so long, and why some bands make a bigger splash. It spans a long way in my head... Mozart, Wagner to The Beetles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, even to more modern things I enjoy like Tool, Foo Fighters, Silversun Pickups, to more obscure like Little Hurricane, Ben Caplan, Melody Gardot.
I dunno... it's hard to explain. Even when I don't know who the band is, or who wrote the song, or what flavor of music it is, I always end up finding ones that just click that something and I enjoy those and support those artists. It just happens the ones who hit whatever makes it click for me are the ones who aren't handed a script and told to act.
That got longer than expected... music is just a big deal to me I guess. Probably why I spend so much money on headphones and speakers and ***.

Like what you want. There's some misunderstanding here I think. I'm saying what I don't like. Not saying other people can't like it.
All I'm saying in this regard is that I'm refuting what was said about her starting out Indie-whatever and then turning manufactured pop-punk, when in fact it was the other way around.
You prefer the earlier. Sound. Good.
Chances are more people do than will admit it. Even if you don't like a song you can admit when it's catchy. It's catchy for a reason. It's been researched for centuries to see what people gravitate toward.
Funny story; Blues Traveler's one major commercially successful album has a song on it called "Hook" that makes fun of the listener right in the song, and most don't realize it.
I know I didn't as a kid. And I absolutely adored the song/album. Still do to some extent.
But you have to admit it's a pretty good out-in-the-open hidden joke.

Little bit of sub/dom is in everyone from my experience.
Alas, from my understanding Seha is taken... otherwise I think we could of gotten along quite well with the escalation of current events.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
