Interesting. It looks like SE added some additional entries to the registry for FFXI. HQ font settings, menu resolution, enabled sound outside of primary window, etc.
Too bad I don't know which entries are which. Also I would presume it would be wise to keep graphics stabilization off.

I don't feel like digging out my dex drive and hunting down my adapter to do it that way, no conversion available?

yeah i read a couple of them. his stories are creepy as all hell, but still quite interesting.
  spent hours now trying to convert a .mcs file over to a ps3 so I can get it on my psp, it just doesn't seem to be happeneing without loading more homebrew on my psp which I don't feel like tonight.
The other method which I know works is to utilize my dexdrive and the memory card adapter, unfortunately I have no idea where my memory card adapter is, and I don't even know if the dex drive will work in Windows 7, I haven't used the thing in years now, it connects via rs232 as wel, so I'd have to use my desktop, as I don't have a usb adapter or know if one would even work... I could have replayed to the point I was at on the save twice by now, and it looks like I'll have to anyway unless one of my friends has the adapter. I just wanted to play on a handheld, so much work. <3 my dex drive. i lost the floppies it came with though. think i have the install files saved on my previous desktop.
