Which country has the most hard working (in terms of avg. hours per week) workers and who has the least?
The answers may shock you.
Quote: Workers in Mexico work the longest hours. An average Mexican worker puts in 2,228 hours a year on the job or about 43 hours per week. Mexico is the second largest Latin American economy according to the World Bank.
South Korea has not submitted its data to the OECD for 2014 but in 2013 the nation was firmly the second-hardest working, behind Mexico. In 2013, South Korean workers put 2,163 hours in a year or roughly 42 hours per week.
The current debt crisis in Greece didn’t help the perception of the work ethic there, of Greeks being over-paid, underworked and retiring early. But in reality, Greeks work the longest hours in Europe, clocking in 2,042 hours a year in 2014, which works out to about 39 hours per week.
Chile and Russia round out the top five nations with workers putting in an average of 1,990 and 1,985 hours a year per worker respectively, or about 38 hours per week.
Americans are ranked #16 by OECD in terms of longest hours worked, putting in 1,788 in 2013 and 1,789 in 2014, or about 34.4 hours per week. That works out to more hours than in most countries. Keep in mind, the average of OECD countries is about 1,770 hours or 34 hours per week.
Germany, by the way, works the shortest hours of all OECD countries. The average worker there puts in just 1,371 hours a year or 26 hours per week. Norway had the second shortest hours. These countries work harder than the U.S.

Quote: Embattled Office of Personnel Management Director Katherine Archuleta announced Friday she is resigning, one day after the government revealed that more than 22 million people had their data stolen in a pair of massive cyberattacks on the agency.
"I conveyed to the president that I believe it is best for me to step aside and allow new leadership that will enable the agency to move beyond the current challenges and allow the employees at OPM to continue their important work," Archuleta said in a statement.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Archuleta came to the White House on Friday morning to offer her resignation and President Barack Obama accepted. She did so "of her own volition," Earnest said at a press briefing.
"It's quite clear ... that new leadership with a set of skills and experiences that are unique to the urgent challenges that OPM faces are badly needed," Earnest said.
Archuleta's resignation came after a growing number of legislators from both parties, including House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, demanded that she step down.
Beth Cobert, deputy director for management at the Office of Management and Budget, will assume the role of acting director of OPM.
"The resignation of the OPM director does not in any way absolve the president of the responsibility to repair this damage to our national security," Boehner and fellow House GOP leaders said in a statement.
"This is the right move for the agency and all those affected by the breach," said Sen. Mark R. Warner, D-Va., a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. "The focus now needs to be on fixing the problem and protecting those impacted."
On Thursday, Archueta and other federal officials revealed that a total of 22.1 million people were affected by a pair of security breaches that affected former and current federal employees, their spouses, and contractors. Stolen information included Social Security numbers, background interviews with friends and family, medical data, and an estimated 1.1 million fingerprint records. Any word on per capita part-time workers?
We've got a lot of underemployment in this country.

If you want good context, look at productivity or value added per labor hour. The US has incredibly high productivity, and combined with average hours worked, our workers are some of the best in the world. It's a pity they aren't better compensated.

By definition if you want to claim high productivity you have to produce something.

Yes, you have to produce value. That's not necessarily physical goods. It can be intellectual property, software, advertising, energy, etc.
Also it's a myth that America doesn't make anything. There are fewer manufacturing jobs, but we still produce a ridiculous amount of things, Japanese cars for example. Nissan plant in Tennessee, Subaru in Indiana, etc.

Well the industrial revolution has been over for quite a while why do we have to manufacture stuff ? That is more interesting to me.
Honestly who wants to work in a factory ?
By fonewear 2015-07-11 08:34:20
I see the US focusing on producing stuff as living in the past. Let China/other countries make all our stuff. We have the money to buy it. What is the problem ?

I would have left out the part about America manufacturing Japanese cars though.
The biggest thing that America is known for around the world is Movies, TV shows, and music. I'm hesitant to put books in there.

Don't worry in the future robots will do our jobs. So we can supervise the robots. There will always be jobs for humans.

Maybe the citizens of the US should be bailed out by our government ! Just claim you work for General Electric !
By fonewear 2015-07-11 08:40:23
If the US ever runs out of money (never) we can always have Greece bail us out !
We can however spend our way out of debt. Just spend more money than we can make.
Keep raising the deficit ??? profit !

The only solution is all out war with china. Tell them to *** off, we're aren't paying our debts. Then we'll have to build our own mcdonald's kids meal toys, and get some free population control while we're at it.
