Last year, the Tribune revealed that in 1994, police obtained a knife found steps from the crime scene. Rivera's trial attorneys said they were never told about the knife, and there is no indication authorities ordered forensic tests before the knife was destroyed, according to court records and interviews. More recently, the Tribune reported that a federal judge had ordered testing on a gym shoe to try to determine if authorities had attempted to manufacture bogus evidence against Rivera. Appearantly he was under house arrest with a monitoring anklet at the time as well so not sure how they even convinced anyone that he was there. Still looking up on that.

It was pretty crazy to me that when the DNA evidence came back and proved that it wasn't his semen... their rebuddle was that the 11 y/o victim was sexually active and therefore why there was sperm present. They also relied on "eyewitness testimony" from the girl the the victim was babysitting (2 y/o at the time of the crime) over ten years later to uphold the conviction.
