I have an CPU: AMD Phenom 2 955 BE @ 3.92GHz, GPU: 8800 GTS 512, RAM: 8 GB DDR3 [forget the speed, the highest avail. at the time]. I'll be able to play XIV on high with 16x AA at 1680x1050 at or around 60fps.

Your processor and ram will be fine but I don't think that graphics card will do 16x AA, 1680x1050 @ 60fps on a game such as FF14. You might get 30+ fps w/o any AA

Operating System: Windows® 2000/XP/Vista/7
CPU: Intel® Pentium®III 800Mhz or faster processor
Memory: 128 MB RAM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce™ series with 32 MB or ATI® RADEON™ 9000 series
Sound Card: DirectX®8.1 compatible sound card
Hard Drive Space: 9.5 GB free hard disk space
Other: Keyboard, mouse, DirectX8.1 (included with install disc),
CD-ROM drive (used only when installing)

*For PlayOnline/FINAL FANTASY XI: Vana'diel Collections, Aht Urhgan, and Wings of the Goddess, it is necessary to use a DVD-ROM drive.

When was FFXI released? I built my p4 2.8gHZ CPU with a Radeon 9700pro and 1gig of RAMBUS memory. All preordered for release back in 2001-2002. So that was basically the tech of the time in 2001-2002 and the stats for FFXI are pretty low. You keep saying you can't compare them but you are crazy to think that FFXIV will need an i7 and high end GPU. By doing that they are killing of 85% of the market.

To be honest I bet the minimum requirement will be a p4 CPU and some mid level GPU like a GTX 9800.

Most likely you are safe on most parts. The one area I would be slightly concerned with would be your videocard. I wouldn't be too hasty in replacing it though. We still do not know exactly what the specs required to run ffxiv will be.

Saying that a gtx260 won't run FFXIV is like saying an Atari won't play pong.

Not that anyone playing ff-anything will go this far.

Basicly, Minimal req. that ive seen, is

10 GIG of HDD space
1.5 gig of Ram
a decent Dual Core possessor i think 3.0~ 3.5
you'll need a Graphics card with a 4.0 shader, most likely a Nividia Ge force 9 series, PCI - Express. would be recommended

*I my self am useing a 1 gig V-ram nividia Geforce 9400 (or 9600 i forget) XD it's quite nice @_@; should work for 14... if anything, i'm waiting for a 360 release =]

What I think needs to be done on FF14 that im not sure if SE made the mistake or not but in heavy areas where there is lots of ppl fighting they need to add more server cpu power to adjust for this that way ppl wont lag. I understand people that has dialup dsl sat cable conection but it will help the player base alot. One last thing for god sakes please when and if you have updates like ffxi add more power to downloads for the updates. If SE can learn from this ff14 might be the greatest game comming out. This will I think help out most people who have decent computers.

It's impossible to know what FFXIV supports at this time or what kind of requirements it has. Judging from screenshots will only give you a rough estimate and it could be far off. Square-Enix is not known for its amazing ability to code properly for DirectX and the Windows Operating System. The fact that FFXIV is also an MMO should be taken into account... with the impressive graphics they've been showing, an event equal to FFXI's Dynamis and, even worse, Beseiged could be incredibly taxing on a PC if the game is not optimized well.

Even when Square-Enix releases its official minimal & recommended requirements, I strongly suggest you take it with a grain of salt. It's very likely the game will be much more demanding. I can only hope they have an excellent team working on their PC release and give all of us not accepted into the beta a benchmark program (and a character creator demo!).

Remember, these would be among the low tier requirements. This could be way off if SE decides to future proof it.

Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz or above
2GB of RAM
30GB hdd
ATI 4650 /Nvidia 8800
Broadband internet (a given)
DVD-Rom drive (although we may see a blu-ray release)

Now, I'm just guessing here, but the Recommended Settings will likely see something in the field of:

Core i7
4GB of RAM
30GB HDD
ATI 5850 /Nvidia 285

I think thats a bit extreme. I would guess the min specs would be more like some of the modern games we are seeing right now. I'd guess:
CPU 2.0ghz dual core
GPU 6600 or 6800 nvidia
RAM 2GB
20-30GB HDD

recommended perhaps more like:
CPU 2.4ghz+ dual core
GPU 8800 512MB NVidia
Ram 3GB
20-30GB HDD..

..i see no reasons for the recommended needing an Nvidia 285..or especially a core i7.

My current setup I'm sure will run 14 fine. I put it together about 1.5 yrs ago.

Stuff that matters:
Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.5Ghz
4 GB memory
2x80GB 7200RPM harddrives in RAID0
nVidia GTX 280 (old 9800GTX died >.>)

That's not extreme at all. We're talking about SE here first off. If they've come quite a ways in learning to code for DirectX and the MS OS in mind then, great, I'm sure that will help. But this is also an MMO as I said earlier. Do you honestly think events like Besieged are going to run well when the game looks as good as it does? On its highest settings, I bet it would bring any current machine to its knees having to render all those different armor models and player models as well as NPCs.

Getting an MMO to run well is entirely different from optimizing a game like Crysis. They are completely different animals.

I sincerely hope SE proves me wrong and makes this the most optimized game in history, but I doubt it. I imagine this game will pressure players on the PC for a couple years until we've all accumulated the money to buy future hardware.

Im sure the beta will also work as a benchmark (or SE will give us min requirement specs)
but I think its safe to asume, If your pc can play Wow / Aion / Guildwars good, im sure the pc would handle FF14 decently
