"No Persons Under 21 Years Of Age Allowed"

We've all seen this sign. For some of you, you're not quite there yet, but for most of us, we're quite familiar with what the significance was to finally turn 21 years old.

So, this is sort of a quick 2-question deal. Chime in with what your experience(s) was once you attained this prestigious age.


1.) Where did you have your 1st drink?

2.) What was your first drink?


I realize the legal age to drink in Europe is different, but the same questions apply.

Age is 18 here so nothing happened when I turned 21.

Assuming you mean first legal drink, on my 21st birthday we actually had a huge family gathering for my aunt, because her 50th birthday was the day after. I honestly don't remember what my first drink was, but there were many of them. It was at a nice little bar and restaurant tucked back in the woods of the Allegheny National Forest.

Which goes for 80% of America...

I was buying beer since I was 16 and grew a sweet, full beard to do so. Also getting alcohol wasn't an issue during high school.

I guess the big advantage of turning 21 was... hmm... being able to casually browse inside the liquor store without any fear of being asked for ID.

First thing I bought at 21 though was Peppermint Schnapps, I remember that, lol.

Always thought the 21 years old thing for booze was idiotic.

You turn 18, you can sign your life away and go and die for your country.

But Gods help you if you have a beer on your home soil.

1) I drank in Japan on my 20th birthday while I was stationed there.

2) My first drink was habusake. I don't remember a lot from that night.

Yeah, I meant first legal drink.

1) Visiting my grandfather in Cuba for my 21st birthday

2) Cuban Rum (took 2 shots just to be hammered and my mom recording me while visiting Mr. Toilet)

Most people don't remember their first drink. But seeing as how I don't get drunk, it was either Kentucky Deluxe or a Red Stripe. Both taste horrible but KD tasted better. I hate beer.

But, then again, My 21st was 20 years ago. So, *** it.
Could just be my age *** with my memory.

And at 18 you can record yourself butt naked for moneys!!!

You'd think waking up in a Superman costume would be a memorable experience at least!

I remember there was Bacardi Limon and Sambuca involved. I remember the bartender's name was Glen and he was a guy I had worked with in years past, pretty good guy. I didn't do the full 21-on-21st thing, but I was with family and came pretty close given that circumstance (given that two of the people buying me drinks...were in AA...)

I have a friend who woke up in a moving car.

That wasn't known to him.

He sat up and introduced himself to the girl driving, who didn't check her back seat.

She screamed and paniced and threw him out (after stopping).

Took him a while to get his wallet and shoes back from her, but eventually he did.

I've never awoke in any strange places. But apparently there WAS one night I was sooo hammered, that I got myself and my buddies kicked out of a bar.
Apparently, I was trying to pee. My friend came in to check on me and I'm just propped up by the stall, leaning forward on my forehead.
Just... leaning.
When my buddy asked if I was OK, I apparently started screaming "STOP STARING AT ME!!! I CAN'T PEE IF EVERYONE IS STARING AT ME!!!"

Ah, good times.

first drink was with parents when I was 15.



@21 I didn't do anything special. Wasn't really interested in drinking much. This one summer though went to a local bar with a friend. Was like a specialty bar that had a large variety of bottles in a freezer that you can go pick and pay at the register then sit at a booth and order food and stuff. Well~ that evening my friend and I got asked by this mom
"Hey my daughter just turned 21. Do you want to talk to her?"
I wasn't really interested since the thought of picking up and/or talking to a girl at a bar isn't really what I have in mind when I want to meet someone new... So I politely said no and went about my business.

Few moments later the lady comes back to us and says "Are you two guys together?"
My friend looked at her funny and said "We're together? Having a drink???" The lady said oh okay~ then walked off and didn't disturb us for the rest of the evening.

When the bar closed we decided to drive down the road to a pool/bar place that closed at 2. We ordered some drinks then it hit us.
The lady thought we were gay. we laughed and finished our drinks and went to ihop.

Who the hell tries to pawn their daughter off on a guy at a bar? Probably a scam, you would've woken up in a hotel bathtub full of ice missing a kidney.

That's actually an interesting point. At 18 you can legally have yourself video taped doing anything imaginable sexually, but god forbid you have a drink after all that gang-banging.

I suspect I've drunk less alcohol than most kids do before they are legally able to buy it.

Just don't like it, don't even get the social drinking aspect of it.

The drinking age in NY was 18 in my youth, but my first drink was at either 4 or 5.

I was first served in a bar when I was 15. Having visible cheekbones even though I eas chubby and threads of gray in my hair helped.

I forget, probably 7% Bud though.

By the time I had turned 18 I was drinking manhattans.

Went to the local college bar off campus after midnight and I think had a white russian, or a jack and coke, or a rolling rock. As I was a dumb college kid it was probably a rolling rock.

first time i got to drink was some white wine from my mom at the age of 4... And even though the legal age to drink here is 16 my parents didn't really object me drinking at a lower age (14~15), my first legal drink was prob. a Jupiler beer though

Funny story actually. I was 6 years old at my friends house and my friend went to get a drink. His dad sent him back to ask me if I wanted one. I asked for root beer. He walks away, comes back and says his dad asked if my parents let me drink it. Confused I told him of course. So soon after I get handed a fancy looking root beer which didn't surprise me until I took a sip and spit it out.
