[XIV] LFTP E3 Edition Discussion

Transcription of Question and Answer at the E3 Letter:
Would you ever consider a /hug emote?
A lot of players want this, and I personally want a /slap emote. Please look forward to it.
There's always the problem with graphic overlap. With the /hug emote it's about emotion, not about perfect animation.
Have you thought about Relic weapons for Land/Hand classes?
Patch 2.3 is going to have desynthesis you can use these new items to craft new things. From there, we might bring Relic weapons in a future patch where you make weapons from these new items.
What is the status for the future of the areas around Coerthas?
At the end of 1.0 when Dalamud opened and Bahamut was unleashed upon Eorzea, many places were destroyed and others locked off. This heavily affected Coerthas. Frontlines will have close proximity to Mor Dhona and you'll see the effect of Meteor first-hand. As for Coerthas, I'm sure people want to see it. We are currently looking at the possibility of opening up new areas; for example, in Patch 2.3 players will be able to go to Carteneau Flats where the final battle took place.
In the last letter, you talked about a ridiculously hard battle that even devs couldn't beat. What was this battle?
We were talking about a harder mode of Coil. Internally we refer to these battles as the “Brutal” Coil of Bahamut. These are powered up versions of all four bosses in the Binding Coil. In the development stage we tuned these fights down from where they were, and so the Brutal Coil are the fights before they were tuned; we don’t know if it’s possible to defeat them, we couldn’t, but if you do you will get a unique title to show off your fighting prowess. It's going to be similar to XI where people would enter a fight with a debuff and die if they move before it goes away. We want that same level of difficulty. It's not going to be as completely in the dark, but still very very difficult. This is a test. We may add unique equipment later on from these Brutal Raids but it really depends on how many players can do them and whether it’s worth the investment of time. Also, just clearing normal version locks out the Extreme version for weekly attempts. If you beat Extreme mode, you get a title. If there's interest, we'll add new loot, but for now, it's mostly a beta phase. This is coming in Patch 2.3.
Time for a big question. NEW JOBS AND CLASSES!?
It's been a year since last E3 and the release of the Beta. At that E3 we revealed SCH. We'll explain the job after we post this video:
YouTube Video Placeholder
What did we just see?
People thought this class would be released during the expansion pack, but.... the expansion is still pretty far off. The fan fest is going to be around October where we'll discuss the expansion then. Patch 2.4 is when the new job will drop. As you saw, they are a dual wielding class. It's like a thief but not.
The classes in XIV has their own story. We thought thieves would be too petty to fit into the other guilds with great heroes. The Rogue guild USED to be thieves like how the Marauders used to be pirates, but they've evolved into something much different over time. If you think about it, why would a city allow thieves to run rampant?
They do have this thief history and have that as their backstory. So, to inform people, here are things we can tell you right now. Their movement speed is faster than other classes. They also take much less falling damage since they are more nimble. You can see in the video that the Rogue class adds poison to the weapons, and this is at the core of the Rogue class. Varieties of poison are added to weapons that change their properties and how they work in combat.
It's dagger focused. It is not two separate weapons, but similar to MNK weapons where two weapons occupy one slot.
The Ninja job will not only incorporate the dual-wielding and poisons but will also add Ninjutsu and the Naruto hand motions called Mudra.
These Mudra will be used in combinations. If you get correct combinations you'll do ninjutsu, but you can also fail to do them successfully. Battle wise, they moved a lot in the video to get into postion. Don't worry, it's not like MNK position based combat. That movement was for stylistic reasons. Instead of positioning for dps, Ninjas use combinations based ninjutsu. Stealth abilities and moving from stealth into a technique will also be used by this job. A lot of players are wanting healers and tanks and those are on their way and will be announced alongside the new expansion.
Can the Ninjas/Rogue jump on top of all monsters and stab them like they did in the video?
Yeah, from Ifrit to ladybugs. The animations are going to be different based on the size of the monster.
Will we get more FATEs like Odin/Behemoth?
Starting in 2.3 we have something different planned which is the Hunts we've previously brought up. There will be a lot of new monsters. In terms of like Odin and Behemoth though? We have no plans currently, and we're not going to focus on it for quite some time.
Can we get a Minstrel's Ballad with the Imperial Generals? (Niro/Livia/Gaius/etc)
It all depends on that wondering minstrel! For Fan Fest, we're creating special content for those enemies. One of our ideas was to fight all four at once. But we've changed our minds because we thought of something better. We're going to be bringing this up soon because of fan interest.
What is the status of personal housing?
In 2.3 we're introducing Free Company personal rooms (“Private Chambers”) like we've previously announced. Personal housing has not gone away, it has been approved but our servers can't handle personal housing yet. We are hoping to have Personal Housing at the latest in Patch 2.38, but definitely before Patch 2.4.
The trailer you debuted for E3 seemed like it was Shiva at the end. Was it Shiva?
Well she is definitely not a Motorcycle, or Shivabike (burn...) . We worked very hard on a 2.3 poster but we couldn't put Ramuh on it because it's not 'sexy' or 'hip'. The US marketing team said it doesn't look inherently interesting. Because of this, PR used Shiva instead. Even though Shiva will NOT be in 2.3, her story will debut in 2.3. It is a very long story that will be very engaging.
People are very excited for Shiva
Yes, as they should be. Ifrit, Bahamut, Shiva, and Ramuh are the most iconic Primals/Summons/Espers.
Will there be more 8 man dungeons? Not raids like Coil?
We realise that because this is a global game, it encompasses all types of communities and people; all these communities have different playstyles that they want catered towards. Some people want large eight man content, others want smaller four man content, and others even want solo dungeon content. We want to cater to everyone and as such we have things set up in a priority list of sorts, we want to give everyone what they want eventually but can only do things one at a time. Currently we are releasing primal fights and light dungeons, this will continue for a while before we move to providing eight person content, after that we will look at providing the solo content that people want. For us as a development team, it is hard to create eight man content as it takes much longer to tune and balance in regards to our current four man content, so due to the time investment we want to make sure this is what the majority of the communities want before we invest time.
For people who are in large Free Companies, will there be content where they can enjoy content together?
There are many types of Free Company, some have 200, some have four members. So if we have a battle centered on Free Companies, do we design it for 200 people or 4 people? It’s difficult for us to create that type of content, so as of right now we aren’t looking to add this. We do realise that free companies want more to do in general, so we are working on creating a list of quests and goals that the Free Company can tackle, and smaller groups of people within can go and achieve these goals to make bigger, better things happen. We are currently aiming at 2.4 for this content; by adding it this way it caters to both the large and the small FCs, everybody can participate.
Will we ever get unique stat weapons and armor?
Wut?
Things like Shield Bash duration 20% longer... etc.
Ah, I see. You're asking about unique per class/job?
Yes, can you expand on this?
So, one of the worries with creating gear that enhances certain traits or abilities is that everyone will start using this weapon if it is good, so it will eventually become a requirement that the player has to own this one item. Until now we didn’t want to add this type of gear, as it reduces the choice that players have due to it being something everyone has to use, but due to the interest shown in these types of enhancements we think it is time to start adding unique stats. At the heart of everything, balance is the key to it all and the development team is extremely careful in maintaining this balance so that we can continue to create exciting content.
What about the previously mentioned Airship Building? Is it Free Company based?
Firstly, this is a Free Company effort with multiple crafters. When we first thought about this content, you realize that the size of an Airship is gigantic. Due to this we are using a magic system that condenses the size of an object, such as Airships, and once you take them out of what we are calling the “Workshop” with the magic inside, it will spring to its full size. We are wanting to go beyond the idea of Airships and things that are even bigger.
What was that white sillohette in that screenshot?
That was a player to show the scale of the size of the workshop.
What happened to the concept of roaming Primals for FC's to capture/fight?
This has not gone away. We're still working on it, but we want it to be part of the story as the Main Scenario and not have it be so jarring to see Ifrit just strolling through Thanalan for no reason.
What is the status on the marriage system?
We're currently working on this content for 2.4. The general idea is that any two players, regardless of Race, Gender or Creed can get married and be able to pledge their eternal love or friendship to one another in eternal bonding. Why should there be restrictions on who can pledge their love to one another? We discussed it and we feel that Eorzea has bonded together thanks to Meteor to the point where they can express their unity through this ceremony. We're also discussing unique mounts for married/bonded couples.
Will there ever be 1v1 PvP/Frontline combat?
As for actual in-game content, we aren’t sure we will as we don’t know if we can add it into the system and then make fun content. We understand that people want to do a dueling system to measure their DPS and we're going to figure out ways to implement that. To also clarify, it wouldn't be PvE weapons and armor being measured [he brings up this is because of striking dummies out in the world], but PvP weapons and armor.
Regarding the Zodiac Weapons, in the future will they have visuals that stand out? Animations, Sounds, Skills, etc?
The grade after the current Novus we do plan to have something that will substantially change the appearance of the weapon. Even after this next grade, we have plans to eventually add a final version, what we imagine for example the Excalibur looked like, what the Zodiac Braves actually used; we want these weapons to stand out both visually as well as audibly to reward players for their hard work.
Once you've beaten all of the Extreme Primals and gotten their weapons, what's the point in keeping the tokens?
For 2.3 we don't have anything planned for those, but in the future we will have more primals. But if you really need the space, you don't have to worry about getting rid of the tokens. It's a ways off. We don't want to tell people you should keep it and they start demanding more inventory space.
When can we use our chocobo while queued for solo duty?
We know that players really really want this. Thanks for saving the worst question for last. We are trying our best but it's tied to the fundamental code for duty registration. To do this right now, we'd have to stop making new content to fix this, but we don't want to do that because it's not worth it. We're working our hardest on it, believe us. We currently designed the chcocobo so that it truly is part of your party, but we are having a tough time separating it and keeping it from disrupting the duty registrations.
Will there be any opportunity to save different HUDs? For example I want to re-arrange my HUD based on what role I'm doing, but don't want to re-arrange it every time I switch.
System wise it is definitely possible, and it is currently on our Lead User Interface’s task list. It will be difficult to implement, but as a player myself, I want it in because it perfectly fits the Armory System.
Anything else you want to drop on us right now? Anything [chat explodes with people demanding they bring up gunner/musketeeer]
Why are you bringing up questions we haven't rehearsed? (laughs)
We've mainly discussed 2.3. Anything else you want to bring up?
At the Fan Fest we have been hinting that you can find a website. The Fan Fest will have exclusive premium items that we will have announced closer to that time. [No gunner info revealed].
Would you ever consider a /hug emote?
A lot of players want this, and I personally want a /slap emote. Please look forward to it.
There's always the problem with graphic overlap. With the /hug emote it's about emotion, not about perfect animation.

Yeah, the Youtube urls have https. FFXIAH doesn't recognize that, removing the S and it will. Yea, it wasn't that though. I just partially selected what I had written before without realizing it so the video ended up being broken.

Ok, I've said since the beginning that I'll -NEVER- play XIV... but damn... It does look... niiiiice.
Few more epic trailers and a free trial... they might win.
But, I know they'll drive it into the ground, so no sale.

It's not a bad game, but it certainly needs more time to mature and grow.

I'm perplexed at people being shocked that it's another dps. The appearance of this job was telegraphed already at the end of the last storyline batch, so wtf were they expecting?
Ninja became a tank in XI only cause players found its abilities suitable for it, not cause ninjas are tanks by design..ever <_<

I have to say, ninja does look nice... Rogue as well ...
I'm glad I decided to start playing again when I did (took a few months break...)

Themes
Will it be easy to participate in Frontline even if you've never played PvP content before?
Frontline is content that a lot of people enjoy at once and it was made with the idea of being extremely easy to get into PvP content. You’ll be able to enjoy this easily.
What's the maximum number of participants for Frontline?
As we are still performing final stress checks there is a possibility that there might be some changes, but currently it will be 24 vs. 24 vs. 24 for a total of 72 players.
Approximately how long will a single battle take?
The battle will be decided within 30 minutes.
Are there any role restrictions for Frontline?
There are no role restrictions, and it will be possible to change your class or job at outposts.
What kind of rewards can we obtain in Frontline?
Essentially the rewards are the same as the Wolves’ Den, but you’ll also be able to obtain war mounts and Allagan tomestones of soldiery.
Will the chocobo raising system be completely separate from companions?
No. The chocobo raising system we will be implementing is content related to your companion chocobo.
Will the size of your private chamber, or the number of private chambers, change based on the size of your free company house?
There will be no differences based on the size of your free company house.
How many items will you be able to place in your private chamber?
We are still performing final adjustments at the moment, so we cannot tell you right now, but the number of items won't be tied or shared with free company houses.
Will you be able to place all of the same type of furnishings of free company houses inside of your private chambers?
Yes, it will be possible. However, it won't be possible to place outdoor furnishings within your chambers.
How big are private chambers?
It will be slightly larger than one floor of a small sized house.
Will we be able to craft inside of our private chambers?
Yes, it will be possible.
Will the new portion of Crystal Tower be easy to participate in and about the same level of difficulty of the Labyrinth of the Ancients?
Yes, just like Labyrinth of the Ancients we’ve made it so you can all enjoy this content.
Will there be a once a week loot restriction for the new Crystal Tower?
Yes, there will be. Just as it was when Labyrinth of the Ancients was released.
What will the item level requirement be for the new Crystal Tower?
We are still in the midst of adjusting this so please hang on a bit.
Will we be able to obtain accessories or weapons in the new Crystal Tower?
You’ll obtain armor from the new Crystal Tower.
Do you have plans for the future to make Crystal Tower a regular open world area instead of an instanced dungeon?
We do not have plans for this at the moment.
Will Gilgamesh make another appearance in the next Hildibrand quest?
No, he will not.
You mentioned previously that it would be difficult to add voice overs for the Hildibrand cutscenes as you are prioritizing the over-the-top humor and such, but would it be possible to add the voice overs after they’ve been released?
Naturally it would be nice to have voice overs, so we may look into this.
Will Yugiri's face be revealed in patch 2.3?
It's still a bit too early for this...
In the patch 2.2 main scenario, Yugiri and Thancred showed off a new fighting style... is this the new job?
Yes, it's rogue and ninja.
Will other famous FINAL FANTASY series characters such as Gilgamesh make an appearance in the future?
We plan on making some guest appearances that are related to the lore of FFXIV: ARR in the future, and once they are ready, I'll be sure to talk about it!
Do you have any plans of making an art book with all of the art you've shown off during the Letter from the Producer LIVE?
We are moving forward with plans for this! We plan on making it an artbook/lore collection, but we'll announce further details later.
Are there any plans to ease up on, or give us more freedom, when it comes to allocating our attribute points?
We've been discussing that it would be nice to make it a bit easier to do this.
Will you be adding new grand company ranks and free company ranks?
We are planning this for the future and would like to release this alongside content that free company members can head towards as a goal.
Where and how can we raise our chocobos?
By setting up a stable in your free company garden, you'll be able to take care of and train your chocobo.
Will anything change when we raise our companions that already reached rank 10?
There will be a way to break the rank cap in the chocobo raising system. By doing this, you'll be able to surpass rank 10. By increasing your companion's rank, you'll be able to increase the number of points for acquiring skills, so with this, you'll be able to acquire all of the skills.
Will new beast tribe quests be added in patch 2.3?
The only beast tribe remaining is the Ixali and this will be added in patch 2.35. The Ixali beast tribe quests will be a bit different from what you've seen up to this point and will have a focus on crafting. Completing all beast tribe quests will unlock a new quest.
Will NPCs or monsters participate in Frontline?
In addition to players, monsters will also be present in Frontline, and they will affect the battle but only slightly.

You mentioned that chocobo raising will be done by setting up a stable at your house, but will it not be possible to raise chocobos if you do not have a house?
This is an expansion to housing content so if you do not have a house you will not be able to participate in it. In the future we are planning to add certain features you can utilize from the chocobo porters in each of the three city-states.
How many chocobos can you raise at the same time?
Since this is for companions, just one for now. We are planning to expand content in phases, and in the future when the Gold*ahem* and the Chocobo*ahem* are implemented, you’ll be able to raise more.
Will it be possible to change your chocobo’s feather color to any of the dyes with chocobo raising?
We'll be implementing a feature in patch 2.35 where your chocobos will be able to 're-grow' their features and that's when they'll be able to change their feathers. It should be possible to change to all the different colors of dyes that are available.
What is the cost and requirements for unlocking private chambers?
You must belong to a Free Company that has a house and you must be at least certain rank in your Grand Company. The cost is still being finalized, but the current plan is for it to be 300,000 gil.
Where will you enter you private chambers?
In patch 2.3, there will be a door added to the first floor that will lead to your private chambers.
Is there a window in your private chamber?
Yes, there is.
If you leave your Free Company, what happens to your private chamber?
In patch 2.3, if you don't remove your private chamber, you won't be able to leave your free company. In the future, we'll be making a system where if you leave your free company, your private chambers will be removed.
For the new Crystal Tower, will you be able to form a pre-made alliance?
Sorry, but due to Frontline adjustments we are making large scale changes to the Duty Finder and we'll be doing our best to implement this in patch 2.35.
What's the item level of the rewards for the Crystal Tower?
We're currently planning on making it item level 100.
What's the drop rate for the unidentified Allagan tomestone and the sands of time and oil of time?
We're planning on making the drop rate approximately 30%. As we mentioned previously, we won't be introducing all three at the start, but as we progress through the patches, we will be adding in more.
Will there be any elements in the new Crystal Tower where the parties will need to split up and accomplish their own goals?
No, there will not be. The concept is that you're all climbing the tower together as an alliance.
Will famous Crystal Tower characters be making an appearance?
Can't say for sure, but stay tuned...
Will there be any special battles like the Gilgamesh battle in the upcoming Hildibrand story?
Yes, we're planning to have a fun and exciting battle!
Will there be any new side story quests besides the Hildibrand story?
Yes, we plan on implementing a side story quest that revolves around the delivery moogles!
Are you planning to add any stories related to Hildibrand's childhood or quests where his mother will make an appearance?
We originally had a story that involved his mother, but there were too many characters that started popping up and we had to make adjustments. However, the story does exist, and if there's enough demand for it, maybe we can make it happen! Let us know!
Will Hildibrand's father return?
He just might...
Can you make it so ability cooldowns are reset when you retry a dungeon after wiping?
It's not something we can decide on the spot, but we'll discuss it.
If you use a phial of Fantasia after you join in an eternal bond with another player and change your gender, will anything happen?
No, because the eternal bond is still between the two players and there are no restrictions in place.
Right now, all end game content is for full parties of 8 players. Will there be any light party focused end game content in the future?
As we're currently working on other tasks as we work on the Patch 2.x series of updates, it's a bit difficult to shift our focus to light party content. However, once things begin to settle down, we'd like to look into introducing various new content.
Will you be adding any high level accessory recipes that are higher than item level 70?
Yes. Look for this with the release of patch 2.3!
When is patch 2.3 going to be released?
We're currently planning for Tuesday, July 8, 2014.

Rogue

These agile fighters pride themselves on their skills with knives and daggers to make quick work of enemies.
Lurking in the shadows, adhering to no laws but their own, they punish the wicked, pilfering their ill-gotten gains and delivering them to the downtrodden masses. Thought by many to be mere common criminals, some would say they play an unseen hand in maintaining order in the buccaneer's haven of Limsa Lominsa.
Ninja

Hailing from the war-torn lands of the Far East, the secret arts of the ninja were born of necessity, and have since given rise to a unique breed of highly-trained combatants.
Able to manipulate the vital energies of the land, the air, and living beings, they manifest their power through the weaving of signs, unleashing a wide array of attacks against their foes. Master the arts of the ninja and learn to bend the tide of battle to your will.
