Current Playerbase

I've been away from FFXI since August 2007 and I'm thinking of returning. At this point, I'm wondering if there are still enough people on at regular hours of the day to actually make it worthwhile, or if I should go to a different MMO. Any ideas?

There still maintains a steady 1500-2500 on most servers during prime time. And even more during JP prime time.

But during the slow times it can dip as low as only 1000.

The game play style of the whole game has changed. Thats for sure.

I've read all about every update that has occured, and it all sounds very intersting.

There was more than enough people before, there's even more now. Game has enough people to be playable, and not too many to be unplayable due to overcamped crap 24/7. Kind of annoying now with more people though ; ;

The player base only dropped enough on a quarter of the servers to have them merge into another quarter.

Plenty of people still play and on Siren there are still daily parties in the dunes onward. Other people may argue that nobody does anything anymore but those are the same people who quit or *** instead of shouting and organizing things themselves.

PLENTY of life still left in the game especially with the new 99 cap, weaponskills, armor, ect.

Not to mention the 3 new mini expansions again + i bet another full one after that for the full on 99 stuff.

Lol odin was 4-5k people @ prime. It was horrible.

That brings up another point I forgot initially. For those of you who have played on multiple servers, what servers seem to be the best?

Ive done Sylph, Odin, Cerb, Ragnarok, Shiva (All diff chars)
Sylph was the best IMO
Less *** then other servers

Fairy had like, no jp playerbase at all. JP prime time was pretty dead. Sylph has a ton of JP's, and a ton of rude JP ONRY's. I thought I was dreaming, or took a time machine to the past, when I saw someones search comment say "JP ONLY" on sylph my first few days there. I didn't think that existed anymore after not seeing it for so long on Fairy <_<

I laughed about it for a while...

Same with Remora and Levi. I screenshotted my first "JP ONRY" shout a few days ago.
